If I go to the store and buy a flag, I can do whatever I want with it. It's my possession. I can worship it or wipe my ass with it.

US Soldiers aren't fighting to defend the FLAG. They are fighting (supposedly) to defend FREEDOM. One freedom is Freedom of Expression (Speech) and burning a flag that YOU own is your right. Period. End of Discussion.

Although burning a flag, a symbol of a country may be free speech it still dishonors the flag and the country it represents and also dishonors the sacrifice that men and women have made.
You may condone flag burning, you may accept it as free speech, but remember without the sacrifice of service members you would not have even the right to post in forums such as this.

It speaks volumes about the one who burns it. Khruschev once said "we'll conquer you from within", perhaps he was right. Or perhaps enough Americans remain to prove him wrong?

i just... wanna say that the flag doesnt represent war and violence and stuff...but instead it represents our rights. how we got those rights is a little gruesome....lol :) but we like them. and, under those rights, we can burn the flag in an act of rebellion. so...does that mean that...we are using our rights to burn the representation of our right? that sounds...wrong to me.

flagburning is natures of way of letting a person let others know that he's really angry, but doesn't have the gumption to do anything about it

in england we write stern-worded letters

in other words... it's pointless and a waste of good cloth

    flags are stupid, who cares?

plus, burning them causes carbon emissions

so burning them is both a waste of time and harmful to the environment

Burning flags is bad for the environment. Could give a fuck less if it wasn't though.

what difference does it make if its anti american. if america becomes nazi germany are you going to support that because it's "american". besides i think america has already become nazi germany. so it is probably a good thing to be anti american if it means that you are against starting riots in other countries. forcefully maintaining military bases in other peoples countries; overthrowing other countries democratically elected leaders because they wont let american businesses in; installing dictator regimes like israel; and torturing people in cia prisons.

The funny thing is that when you RETIRE a worn and tattered flag, it's patriotic to burn it in a ceremonial fire. The Boy Scouts of America do it all the time.

If you wanna burn my flag, feel free to wrap yourself in it first.Alot of good men died so that dumbasses like some of you have the freedom to spout hate at your own country.it makes me sick.if you don't like it here, maybe you'd enjoy iran or north korea more.I don't agree with the gov't prolly 90% of the time, but I can think of a helluva lot worse places to be born.In my town,I guarantee, you burn our flag, you will get beat up,if not worse.

a flag is not a country, it is an enlarged bumper sticker or an unstitched shirt

disagreeing with america [even as much as 90% of the time] does not mean that one wants to live in iran or north korea per se; i, for example would prefer to live in the netherlands or scandinavia

stating that you're happy your momma squirted you out somewhere between the borders of canada and mexico is not exactly the same as patriotism

and i'm sorry to hear that the town you live in does not honor the first amendment to the constitution; perhaps you might consider moving somewhere more american?

Flag burning allows the illiterate members of the population a means of expressing their hatred without having to be specific as to what it is they hate. The more rational and literate members of the population recognize that words are a much better means of communicating clearly and precisely. Much like a child throwing a temper tantrum, it simply displays the absence of mature cognitive reasoning. We need to recognize that while physical maturity is acquired naturally, mental maturity need not be at all.

constitutionally protected or not. if someone burns my nation's flag, they obviously do not like where they live. therefore, why are they living here?

it is a symbol of that respective nation. it would be like burning the religious texts of a particular group. unless you are out to shcok or offend for the sake of doing so? why even bother?

where does it say in the constitution specificly that it's okay to burn this nation';s flag? just because a court ruled it's a protected form of free speech
