What song(s) do you HAVE to listen to everyday? What's your favorite?

Everyday I either have to listen to China Cat Sunflower or Scarlet Begonias (I like the Sublime version, too!) by the Dead or The Ballad of You Me and Pooneil by Jefferson Airplane.

there is just one song that says it all, Beautiful by CAROLE KING, it got me going everday when I had to get up and go to my straight job now I work for myself and it still give me hope ............You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel

Waiting at the station with a workday wind a-blowing
I've got nothing to do but watch the passers-by
Mirrored in their faces I see frustration growing
And they don't see it showing, why do I?

You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel

I have often asked myself the reason for sadness
In a world where tears are just a lullaby
If there's any answer, maybe love can end the madness
Maybe not, oh, but we can only try

You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel

My fav hippie anthem would be "Carry On" by CSN&Y, but lastly I'm on KLF Chill Out tunes which are very warm and lovely. They transcend me to outer space. Like love.

Anything Saving Jane or Janis Joplin. I'm not picky with music at all. As long as it's got a good message!

My favorite song though is Saving Jane-Happy.

Mmm, I'd probably have to say Ani Difranco's "Pixie (Be Nice.)"

If you haven't heard that song (or haven't heard Ani's stuff at all,) I'd definitely suggest you pick up some of her music.

She's one hardcore, lovely girl. The lyrics in that song inspire me to be kind to others. People's happiness mean the world to me and so I suppose that would be at the top of my "hippie anthem" list.

Anything by The Doors makes me shiver and so they're up there, too. The Doors will eternally be spectacular to me.

Janis' "Summertime" is lovely as far as nature-related lyrics go. I love Janis' stuff; she had a beautiful voice.

"Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd explains perfectly my hatred and distrust toward the system.. toward society.. anything Pink Floyd captures a certain morbid, yet beautiful, essence. I love the meaningful, poetic lyrics.

Mmm, Simon & Garfunkel's "America" describes my future travels. I really dig that.

Anything reggae has a good, laid-back mood to it. Gotta love that.

Haha, okay, I'll stop now.. I adore music.

I have to listen to these songs nearly every day for various reasons...

"I Am the Walrus" - The Beatles
    "Hey Bulldog" - The Beatles
"I'm Only Sleeping" - The Beatles
"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" - The Beatles
"It Don't Come Easy" - Ringo Starr
    "Instant Karma!" - John Lennon
"My Sweet Lord" - George Harrison
"Not to Touch the Earth" - The Doors
"The World's on Fire" - Strawberry Alarm Clock
    "Tomorrow" - Strawberry Alarm Clock
"Eight Miles High" - The Byrds
    "Magic Carpet Ride" - Steppenwolf
    etc.

I don't know about hippie anthems, but one group in particular speaks to me of my memories of my hippie psychodelic period. I can darn near have a real flashback just listening to some of their stuff: Quicksilver Messenger Service albums, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Happy Trails, Just for Love, and What About Me. Just for Love and What About Me are definitely trippin albums.

    Hippie anthems...hmmm....
    Mine would be:
On the Road to Freedom by Alvin Lee and Mylon Lefevre
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed by the Allman Bros.
Can't Buy Me Love by some British band whose name escapes me right now...
Layla by Derek & the Dominos
I'd Love to Change the World by 10 Years After
Dazed and Confused by Led Zep
Sunshine of Your Love By Cream
And of course, the all-time 60's-70's garage band anthem:
Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Glimmer Twins
