Ancient Rome, particularily the civil war between Caesar and Pompey, and right on through Antony and Cleopatra's suicide and the reign of Augustus.
800 year war in Ireland and still going. You would be amazed about the long struggle the people of Ireland had to put up with. against the brits. From slavery, kicked off there land, rebellion, famine. Their are many other things aswell the celts, normans, vikings the romans were to scared ha ha I love history and when your born and live in this country its born into you.We have a long memory and rightly so. Its a good start you be amazed.
I'm personally much more intrigued by the age of decline of the last roman empire (byzantine) than the time when the romans where at their climax. Both pretty much alien worlds though (especially when you were in the wrong spot I reckon) and very interesting  Can't pick a favourite moment, every culture and place has it's highlights...!
Interesting opinion, certainly I do not support the Germans attitude at all, but the communists definetly weren't the good guys either. Nowadays a lot of people here think about what would happen to Ukraine if Germany would provide it some more human-like attitude. Anyway I don't think they would tolerate Ukrainian after hypocetical their victory, so I am, personally, sure that the only and the best solution for Ukraine would've been its complete independence from both Russians and Germans. As for my favourite history moments - they are the moments after WWII, when countries like Germany and Japan rebuilt themselves from ruins and even turned into the world's economic leaders. These moments are so inspiring.
the olympics of 100+ years ago seem alot more interesting than the present day games to me.waiting to see the results in the newspapers from far off athens, paris,st. louis and london instead of watching it on t.v.
the ntime when r budd dwyer blew his brains out on national tv. i wish more elected officials would follow in his footsteps
Asmodean Agree. Such time of transitions are critical. Nicea and the new chair of peter.. what a turn around. I would give anything to have been there when the bible was made. Dirty infested and crass. the time was. But a cusp of history Occam
probably the first time computers became affordable to the average person, even if they were little more then toys to play with programing in basic on. the first time multiple unit diesel locomotives started replacing steam in main line freight and passenger haulage. the first time jet propulsion was applied to passenger aircraft. the first time a human in a space craft orbited the earth. the first time dominant cultures started having at least a little bit of respect for indigenous ones. the first time i went for a long walk by myself when i was five years old. the first time i saw a model train when is less then two. the first time i was carried outside the hospital in which i was born. the first time someone made electricity turn a motor the first time someone used a water wheel to turn an electric generator the first time arpa net was opened to the public to become the internet. the first time i had a modem, a 300 baud raidio shack modem, with acoustical connection to the phone, attatched to the rs-232 serial port on my 8k of ram, 8-bit vic-20. the first time i could afford a disk drive (a 5 inch floppy) for it. my second h.o. train. the first one for which i had switch tracks. the first time i slept in the caboose on the camino cable and northen in camino california, and made scrambled eggs for the crew in the morning. the first time i held a camera in my hand and took a picture with it. the first time i created something that someone else wanted. the first time my grade school band played for a real audience. the first time i was old enough to get a senior discount and now my head is full of all this old stuff from the first time i did, or saw, or experienced or felt this or that.
Im not all that into history but the rennassiance intrigues me. I like the idea of a flowering of new ideas from humans and huge jumps in the arts and other aspects of life.
