the majority of todays youth is too preoccupied with video games, text messaging and reality tv to care about anything or anyone but themselves. they put themselves in a bubble and avoid the problems that world is facing. now a days, kids would rather play a horribly violent video game for 12 hours than step outside and take a walk and socialize. and when you dont interact with others you become ignorant and self absorbed. and thats sadly what most of todays youth is, ignorant, self aborbed jackasses.
What would you like us to do or say to you. We just got up and did the doing. We listened to the underground pipe line and got involved in what was going on with the war, our human/civil rights and the people being consumed with material possessions and who had the best and the newest contraption available. We got out of the rat race and set ourselves free. We were motivated by so many I cant begin to name them all. I believe that is what is missing in today's youth. There are little to none that are leading our youth in ways that we were being introduced into The Movement of the 60s.
"For mankind is ever the same and nothing is lost out of nature, though everything is altered" - John Dryden Although quotes are of course not the answer I like this one for it perhaps not so obvious truth. Nowadays youth is not different than for example the youth in the sixties. The world changes all the time. It's not the youth that has caused this 'material enslavement' or whatever you want to call it. I don't see videogames and movies as the problem at all, but I can see tv is part of the bigger problem.
dont see why we should putting it off on todays youth, after all who would make more of an impact in there protest than those who represent the majoriety of the voting populace
This is only like...a little bit true, you believe this because it is what you have seen. I love how you say "now a days."
We just need to stop being lazy, myself included, I'll admit. Once we admit we have a problem, then we can find ways to fix it. But that's just it, alot of people I know don't care, or just don't want to talk about politics, or the enviroment, or the system. They're all denying that there even is a problem, because the government is feeding them crap! But I've read this entire forum, and you guys are kind of fighting with each other. Isn't that what we're all gathered here for? To stop the fighting? Let's find a common ground and work with it! It seems that you all are (for the most part) dissatisfied with the MAJORITY of our youth's population's lack of effort. If we can all agree that this is our one common ground, let's start thinking of ways on how to solve this problem. And please, stay considerate of what others have to say, and use CONSTRUCTIVE criticism! Just trying to keep the peace!
Unfortunately I think I can't agree with that. It's not the majority, most of them will turn out just fine. Some of you sound like charicatures of my grandparents. Youth always have seemed to behave dubious.
OK, let's say, the youth is always, in this way or another, a reflection of the older generation. So, all these laments about "oh I don't know whats goin' on with today's youth really..." -- can be easily answered as:"It is, my dear older ones, the direct results of your upbringing." Or, it is something about yourselves, which you were not willing to see in yourselves... It seems, we can't deceive our human nature and get away with it... However, as such older one, I want, with all love and care give this council to the youth: don't be wise in your own eyes!!! Don't take for granted what your young inexperienced mind/heart presents as something "obvious". When the older ones start "talking" like teenageers, they DO IT ON PURPOSE. They want to win respect of the young and become their leaders, just that simple. There are folks around, who love global experiments, who would like to try out their crazy ideas on whole generations of people. They do it from utter disappointment in life and despair. They couldn't make it in their OWN LIVES, so they reason:"OK, life seems to be whole bunch of s**t anyway. So why not try a couple of things on other humans? Maybe it will destroy their lives? I don't care, since MY OWN LIFE is a complete wreck now... And anyway, we'll all die in the end! But maybe this will really bring in some change? Now that would be funny!..." And then they want to make YOU just as desperate sick ones as themselves, and they call this "love". How kind of them... So, don't be that silly! You are NOT living in the world, that would easily let you mold it after your fancy. No, not before it succeeds in molding YOU after itself, just as it did to the generations before you. You have loads of books, computer and Internet gives access to Gygabytes of information, including history. So go on, study it! See for yourselves, that this world has been here much longer than yourselvest. You are not the first to step into this trap, so be wise about it. It is always easier to destroy, protest, and believe that ALL TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT. But up to now nobody could! Because life is a personal effort and personal battle. Learn to love yourself with your long-lasting wellfare in view, and then love your neighbor as yourself -- this is far more difficult, then "protest", "make revolutions" and destroy what others have built.
The only "youth" I observe are kids walking home from school as I'm driving by, or the kids walking with their parents in the grocery store, or the kids on TV shows.. I'd hate to generalize the attitude and actions of an entire generation based on these observations. lol If anything I'd say my generation and the one after are extremely diverse.. just as I'd imagine past generations have been. How can we say "everyone" is this or that?
Well, the fact, that every generation is "different" and everyone is "individual", doesn't change another fact -- that every next generation is showing more signs of degradation. Otherwise the world would not be going down so fast -- but that is our reality, like it or not. You can TRY to "concentrate on the positive" and try "not to judge", and all that... But you can't ignore the fact of the fast deterioration of the world's conditions. Then, WHAT actually is deteriorating, do you think? Is it the buildings? The cars? Our clothes? The pavement of the streets we walk every day? What is getting worse in this world, if it is not the people?? When we think about the world's conditions, what are we talking about? Where do those "conditions" actually take place? Is it not in the hearts and minds of us humans? Which is expressed in our actions and reactions? That is what causes the "situation". So, it doesn't mean "everyone", of course. But still you can't restrict the "bad behavior" to just a couple of "jerks" or "bad guys", who spoil the party for the vast majority of them decent folks. It cannot be otherwise, then the general attitude of the whole generation(s). No, I don't like it any more, than you do.
Sure.. but then couldn't we say the real problem is attributed to those who built civilizations and had power to direct society? I'm referring to governments and religious institutions. Can we really say that people themselves are deteriorating, to their own fault alone? In societies that thrive on having a mainstream culture, complete with social norms and judgments and consequences for those who deviate from what's acceptable? Where it's safer to follow the masses, so to speak? Rebellion and revolution happen, but as history tells us, these things take time to manifest. It takes courage to question authority and open-mindedness to believe in change... without one or the other, you're screwed. Enter the deterioration bit. But I ramble.. These are just thoughts to expand the dialogue.. I hope I'm understood.
Honestly, we have no power and no where near enough to ge the type of power we need. Face it, it takes power to make power, it takes money to make money...I know, about this, studied plenty on environmental geopolitical etc etc. I believe were overdue as a species for a great die off of epic proportions, as well, population is not stopping its growth, were running out of resources that ook millions of years to create in 100 years....there is no balance life isnt just about the earth, we will go on and this will be but a memory. Row row row your boat, gently down the stream, merily merily merily merily, life is but a dream
We have power over our own children. If you can but only dream about global change you better focus on your surroundings. Not saying the government doesn't have a large impact on our lifes but it's the easy way out to blame them for the problems you have with today's youth.
That you are I appreciate the fact, that you are tending to "expand" the dialogue, not at all scared away by the tone of my post here... I must admit, I didn't feel very good, and so was teding to express myself quickly and effectively. But politeness is not one of my strongest features... But who builds the civilizations and has the power to direct society??? Hm, do you know what your Bible says about the principal builder and director of this civilization? It calls the name -- Satan... It is him, who directs to religions and governments -- which, by the way, explains pretty well about "what is happening" to our youth and adults. So I take this explanation seriously, for it explains everything... ...So it says, since humans left God's guidance and want to do their own thing, they unmistakeably fall under the alternative strong influence, that of the fallen angel. Looks an awful lot like what we see around us. And that explain, also, why God doesn't interfere: let them do their own thing, if so be their will.
And about rebellion and questioning authority... It is quite easy to say:"We want it THIS and THIS way! We don't want it the way it is currently! We don't like it." But such wise person, as can really effectively bring about changes, is bourne once in a century; but understood only a handred years after his death... By which time the changes he was talking about, have already come about in a "natural" unhasty manner and without ruining the country... On the other hand, we have today many a bad example of how constant freedom finghting can ruine a country. Think of 50% of African territories, especially Somalia -- their most prosperous time was that of Italian colonial rule, when locals WERE NOT ALLOWED into governmental structures. Think of Shri-Lanka, where the Tamil Tigers are causing enormous harm and ruination, so that it looks now more like "doing their own thing", than fighting for anyone's "rights". And many other places. I belive it very strongly, that first of all humans need freedom from hunger, from poverty, from crime, from the badness of the people...
Eventually no matter what political change must happen, people have to die off in massive numbers. This planet cannot support us whether we like it or not....agriculture is oil based and oil is gone within the next 100 years...everyone cannot go back to an old subsistence way of life, much less want too and this way of life is the active problem that will solve resource depletion...we are also 20% over carrying capacity already and its only 2010, resources that took hundreds of thousands of years to make are gone in a month, today was just one day. Life isnt just about this earth either, the universe is aite nigga, its aite, nigga.
I agree that we should work on stopping the overpopulation, not much good can come from it in my opinion. Not sure if it will stop any of the problems with today's youth though (certainly not in the short term)
Yea. But you can also add a couple of other statistics. Overpopulation -- there is NO such thing! All the present earth's population could be placed on the territory of North America with plenty of space for everyone of them. Running out of resources? Let's rather call it BAD management and mindless consumer approach to what we have. Still, most of the land of the earth is UNCULTIVATED -- there are tremendous territories, that could be used for agriculture. Well, political problems won't allow that, you know... But that is not running out of resources. Then we use thousands of things we don't need to make us happy -- and these actually make us UNhappy. The rich aren't ready to share with the poor, but are instead getting more rich themselves. And so on -- there is a lot more to it. We just DON'T CARE! And with today's bleeding age technologies peoples not willing to care turns out disastrous. The developed countries produce more food, than the whole world really needs -- and the fish supplies are getting exhausted... People flee from villages and concentrate in them big cities -- sometimes it is not for survival, but rather for some "better life". We city residents know about the kind of "better life" there, but them village folks think they are missing on something terribly important, that's going on there. And then they cannot make it and live in slams and increase poverty and criminality. So also, the disasters take more lives because people settle down in potentially dangerous areas and don't pay attention to the warnings. ...So... NO, definitely it is NOT overpopulation. It is just stupid approach. USA is trying to dictate its will to settle peace in some undeveloped countries -- it is because these start causing problems. But WHO will show THEM developed countries the right way?
Overpopulation to me is too many people than this earth can handle, and not just about space. You gave a couple of good examples what shows there are too many people on this earth. Yeah, if we did everything the smartest way we could all do fine on this earth but when is that going to happen? We're going offtopic though!
