Gardener - Do you fear competition? Even as man evolves and his technological advances makes life easier, we are still in competion to survive. But the edge to your survival instincts vary. You ask your question as an American. Place yourself as a person living in Senegal, or New Dehli, or Wuhan, or Cartagena. The very things you say should be what we seek, this blissfulness, are dream concepts to a fair portion of the world. Time to make some pottery? Many people must make pottery to sell to have money for the next meal. Meditate? No time, gotta work if work is available to feed, cloth. Blissfulness? Many are giving their all just to survive. Millions die every year from failing. Remember one thing: when a poor man succeeds, he lives; when rich men succeed, many live. Yes there are exceptions to this and any rule, but the exceptions with this rule are in the minority, otherwise the human toll would be devastating. Deciding where to study, what job to get to have money? Others are standing in line, literally dying to be in those shoes.
No mate its you "third way" right wingers and fascists that are pushing a dead duck. Remember the anticapitalist riots pre 2001 well theyre back on - I'm no fucking socialist - they are boring ! I'm not a fascist or a neo con - all of em the same as castro - BORING ! No we cant let loose the rhetoric of a building site till we have done the job of demolition. You have me sussed wrongly - its people like you that are confined to stale rhetoric issued on the bad breath of old ladies in a blue rinse hairdo. I speak the language of people over money - a common bond over capital Yes my friend I push the love of the prospect of 400,000 protesters who become 200,000 rioters at every G8 and every other capitalist mafia arselicking party - be there or get you and your octogenarian policies swept assunder - we are all policies that equate respect for the lowest above the desires of the highest and but 1 SINK THE FASCISTS NOW You talk like nick griffin - the wonder boy of the right wing UK ponce extraordinaire of every failed imagination we are poets and you are mere purse
Where did you read that? When a man lives a life worthy of rememberance he truly lives. When rich men succeed, they then strive to exploit many more, because their greed is never satisfied.
The rich haven't taught anyone how to "fish", in fact what they seek to accomplish is to enslave the poor to their own endeavors. They don't want anyone to know how to do anything more than what is required to deliver the goods. Buy into that mentality and be aware that they will at some time see you as disposable.
The only way to keep yourself indispensible is to keep trade secrets to yourself I worked as a computer expert at a company that would have loved to get rid of me to get someone cheaper but all I did was refuse to teach anyone what I knew. I taught myself and even students and people who had done the job 20 years couldnt outsmart my technology and offer anything better. They ripped me off and made me feel worthless so one day I just went to lunch and never went back. Their company sank to its knees about 12 months later - I told them to make me a director though on the basis that technology always belongs to those who know how to use it - even if a rich man buys a fishing net it belongs to the guy who uses it - even though we patronise those who buy it. They are the fools not us The rich need us - we dont need them BTW they phoned me every day for two weeks asking how they use the technological solutions I built but I just switched the phone off - as they often screwed me up for money. Then I set up my own company and now their customers come to me. and every single customer says they respect my honesty at having tried to warn them - but I only took on the companies that trade ethically and dont exploit their workers At the checkout till of your local supermarket buy a tee shirt- ask how come this shirt is £20 when it was made in Asia by a kid that got £00.05 for it? then throw it asside point made !
Show me where competition is open and fair. Please! The corporate mobsters run the economic world and they wish to continue. Linux is forcing MS to become more responsible. But would they have done that had they not had competition from open source? But then I don't think Billy has totally sold out with the rest of the piranas in the world. He may not be all good, but I don't think he's totally sold out. But I see our youth selling out for the best paying jobs. No one seeks to find employment doing what they love any longer. They only seek reimbursement. That I hope is a broad generalization, but it's what I see on the art and animation boards that I frequent. We wonder why there is road rage. When you are spending all day doing something that may pay well, but doesn't satisfy you as an individual, then you do a two hour commute, what can we expect?
To my way of thinking anyone who appeases the authority of a so called legitimate state is a fascist. I do the job I love doing - hell I worked at it 5 years unpaid to setup a business and now i still love it Its the love of learning and my mind against the logic of computers till I win by cunning. I absolutely love what I do and spend 18 hrs a day 6 days a week doing it I am not merely saying this as an ego trip but I became so good at it I am addicted to the finding new ways of doing things better and show great aptitude for it. I dont do it 4 the money but 4 the mind - if I wanted money I would work as a secretary or some other minnion at a office - I have my office at home cuz journeying to works a waste of time
That's what makes you better at your job Sentient, than the new college graduates that picked their majors based on the return, rather than an interest in the field. Passion is what's missing from all the economic formulas.
youre right - with these right wingers its all about juggling finance and having to make better profit - its about cutting expenditure - but with me I would prefer to reward innovation and pay fair, play fair and be respected for my integrity than respected for how much richer I made people to earn only an honest days pay and to pay anyone that works for me an equasl share if they do an equal day with both me and them paying for overheads and future expansion - at the end of the day I own the business - they have nothing if not their dignity and my respect and I demean myself if I take more than them in a day if they worked harder I dont need a car thats too big and fancy polluting the air and a great big house to prove I'm someone - I want to be on a par with the group that work with me without cheating them out of a decent life at the end of the day I can sell the business but they will be out of work with nothing to sell but their labour at that point - I am rewarded by their work when the project is done
They can't factor in passion for a craft, and that's why the little man can always win back control. They don't understand passion or craft they only understand dollars. If we don't sell out.
I refuse to tick a selection on the poll, because none of them are something I would choose. What I would tick is: Globalization is an invention of wealthy financiers that want to extort the rest of the world. Is it bad, yes if you aren't in the upper 10%.
Sentient - Ah...the real you comes out! Now I know where all this comes from. Gardner, he's all yours!
I agree its about the morality of exploitation If I had to choose an answer it would be : globalism wouldnt be bad if we could garauntee that its morality was non exploitative and offered decent terms to competing ideologies I like this that you said, gardener. I saw men working in factories, when Britain used to have factories, they were big oily smelly places where men sweated to produce very minute components to build huge machinery. every man not had only to know those components they made but how to keep their machine working and that was where the labour of love was - that generation were very excellent mechanics my dad was and he taught me how to strip a car engine apart and rebuild it perfectly and with maximum efficiency at diagnosing problems on a car engine - he worked on huge machines called "Capstons" or something like that and those men in those factories hated their inability to excape their wage slavery but loved the work - hated being exploited but worked for the craftsmanship of mechanical engineering
IMNHO...these kids have no choice but to be money hungry. The average cost of a college education is around 250,000. Do you realize how big the monthly payment on that size loan is? Not that I disagree w/ your point, but what should we expect them to do?
Thats just to price the poorer ones out of an education which the rich see as their right and our priviledge and the only reason youre seeking to patronise me is because you havent got a clue what modern left wing politics is about. Its no longer a stagnant ideology - its moved on - I suggest you read up on it http://www.internationalviewpoint.org/spip.php?article76 - we dont chant slogans no more that came from any book older than 20 years. The new left wrote its own manifesto and anarchists - greens - reds - all conjoined in one movement - anticapitalism get that word - not pro anything but anti destroy to build - it comes together to defeat an ism so its just the anti-ism movement - and to be ironic about it - aint that anarchism Nihilism is like postmodernism - it doesnt HAVE to say anything new - just hast to be a critique of what is old - no theory can replace either postmodernism within the arts or the nihilist left - you cant destroy our theory as the only theory is the means to destroy capitalism if you argue with it, you merely add to its fuel and provide a better theory - you throw in a new thing we can use to destroy what you are arguing for. The negativity of capitalism is its own destruction. Nihilism is neither negative nor positive. The failure of the old left was to suppose it had to offer an alternative - that wont be a problem for this revolution it has nothing that can be twisted into another shape the capitalists can use be afraid of it - its gaining ground - we are not arguing with it anymore but fighting it. I am alwys glad when I meet a right winger - their fear of dissent and individualism is so .... apparent.... that I think ... if only they realised what freedom is - its freedom to dissent - not the freedom to block dissent WE HAVE ALREADY WON THE IDEOLOGICAL WAR - NOW FOR THE PHYSICAL WAR RECLAIM THE STREETS _ THE GOVERNMENT DOESNT OWN THE AIR YOU BREATHE OR YOUR RIGHT TO END THE IDEOLOGY OF GOVERNMENT - IT POINTS A GUN AT YOU HOPING YOU WILL GO AWAY AND THAT YOU WILL BELIEVE IT HAS THAT RIGHT genoa - two sets of people - the free and the oppressor
MODERN????? Why do you think I said what I did? You're spouting out old, dead, useless drivel that I am surprised anybody who claims to be half as smart as you're convienced you are would be spending their life even reading about. Your creedo is dead, laddie! You are the only person who seems to think other wise, you and a couple of others who hide in pseudo-anarchistic closets. You wouldn't know a revolution if it crawled out your ass and shook your hand. I'll say it again in case you missed it: YOU are all concept and NO consequence! Lofty ideals on paper and NO BALLS! Do you know anything about the Spanish Civil War? When you decide to put your whinning to the test, then write something!
I already have - you probably ere too old or too young to remember many of the socio/political battles that took place in Britain - yeah I been on the frontline in this country mate and met the lot - head on. Yeah we got some things changed and yep we lost a few battles but seriously dude were talking about the European Anticapitalist movement here - its building up dont you worry about that. Oh I know a great deal about the spanish civil war and our anarchist contacts in spain are manifold. You know you will never kill an idea like freedom by shouting at it and clenching your butt cheeks in a prissy way like you do. Just meet it argument for argument and eventually you'll see how right you are to fear it since you wont change your right wing ideals but you will see just how unstoppable the left is becoming. Isnt it enough that we cn count on 200,000 rioters at every summt meeting? hahaha YOU LOOK INTO the spanish civil war and YOU will be surprised at how things resemble what a revolution looks like - at last we are even more powerful than in the sixties. Anarchist prophesy fulfilling itself When there's no future How can there be sin We're the flowers in the dustbin We're the poison in the human machine we're the future, your future
I'm not even about to try and carry on an even semi-intelligent conversation with someone who is as removed as you seem to be from anything relevant about...well, pretty much anything. You bring nothing to a conversation but tired old crap and then you infect a site with the stuff like a cancer, pretty much like your philosophies. Ciao loser! When you learn how to sell shit, give me a miss!
Define open and fair. If you mean perfect competition or monopolistic competition, then the number of markets has been growing since the 1930s (according to the HH index). If you mean international trade regulations - well they're tending to become more open (debatably) and equal (ie: ending restrictions on low-capital labour-intensive products in which the underdeveloped world can be competitive - notably the phasing out of tariffs on the agricultural and textile industries).
