What's wrong with girls today?

OK, the "I hate men" thing really bothered me. But, I think the point is, that when girls are expected to dress like they are out to make a living on the street, in certian places, it may put other womyn at a disadvantage. It becomes "expected" that womyn dress like streetwalkers, and anyone who doesn't is considered a slattern. Or just plain ugly. When only womyn who weight 88 lbs are considered desirable, it makes real womyn, with normal size bodies, at a disadvantage.

Thing is, in the Real World, this type of dressing is wholly innappropriate. I work in Health Care. You wouldn't get a job as a nurse, or get a Residency as a doctor, or even a job as a Tech, if you dressed like you were gonna sell it to the patients. In the Business world the same is usually true. Julia Roberts or Sharon Stone (ah, the Mental Midgets of HollyWood) dress prostitute like when they play office workers, but IRL, this doesn't work. Not usually. At my dh's place of employment, there have been a few womyn who have been taken aside and asked to dress more appropriately for a REAL job.

But, in some spheres, it is similar to an athlete using steroids. When a FEW start doing it, it raises the bar, and makes those who are trying to play the game right at a disadvantage. So, one either has to play at a disadvantage, or one has to play along with something one would rather not do.

But, I really don't think the "I hate men" comment was nice, or relevent. Womyn need to say NO to dressing like this, as it serves no purpose other than to perpeturate sterrotypes. Some may look "pretty" today, but in just a decade or two, that will not be possible, unless one wants to be one of those barflies, dressing like a 16, at the age of 55. Pathetic. I've seen this, we all have. It is sickening. Yet, these were womyn who ONCE had the Advantage, and lost it. Nothing sadder than a womyn who relied on her looks and her sleazy clothes to get by for years, and suddenly found out that she never developed any REAL skills, personal or professional.

If ALL womyn refused to play the Whore, none of us would suffer from the fallout. What if ALL womyn just said "I am NOT going to do that." Things would change in a hurry. The Fall Out happens to all. If we live long enough, all of us will soon be out of our 20s, and then this particuar "advantage" becomes a problem. If you "have it" you won't for long. People who think that look is attractive, usually only have a small number of womyn, and a smaller number of ages which they are attracted to. Even if that type of dressing "works" for one today, once you hit 30 or 35, that particular game is OVER. Better to develop admirable skills, which will last you a lifetime. Nothing more pathetic than someone's gramma in a miniskirt, a bad facelift and high heel over the knee boots. Scary. And it doesn't "work" for them anymore.

 

meh. i kinda see those woman as flypaper, really. keeps the idiots from buzzing around me. it's kinda nice. i get to keep the good ones while my more unfortunate sisters run interference.
