Here's someone who got it. I can't help it if you are way to goddamned serious, always pissed off, and do nothing but attack people on this forum.

PS why don't you sign your bad rep and negative comments next time you send them to me.

There was some discussion about differences between countries... this poster is from Cali, and I suspect that this is much, much more laid back there than where I am in the Northeast. I had a couple of friends move to San Diego, and they told me how surprised they were to find many people going to work in offices in jeans, shorts, and sandals. Over here, those are very upsetting to managers and co-workers (strange people).
The other thing I think about is if there is a difference between how people perceive barefoot people by gender. I think some of the underlying basis for this irrational and annoying cultural norm is to perpetuate sexism by especially opposing males doing anything that is natural or sensitive, which barefooting IMO can be connected to these traits.

P.S. - I'm new here ... I'm glad to see a lot of interesting discussion, but I'm really disappointed to see some of the hostility. I think it is great for people to have different opinions, and disagreement on ideas should not mean anger or dislike toward the person expressing them. Some jerks have been disrespectful, and the cool people should not let it get to them, or stoop to their level.

    Peace,
    Ryvr

Welcome Ryvr! I'm glad you've joined us, I'm sorry you had to be initiated like this. Yes, the Hip Forums can be really interesting, but, some people that post here really thrive on being nasty and trying to ruin other peoples fun in conversing. I have to say, of the few "cat fights" I've read here, this is the worst. I also have to admit that it is hard to not get baited by some of them when they start getting insulting. It just adds fuel to the fire though, and so far I've managed NOT to enter the fray in that fashion.

If you're interested in such things, you can check out the arts & crafts forums on the site! They're usually pretty friendly over there.

Regarding barefooting, it is something that I have only recently endeavored to do myself, and in as much I find it interesting to read what people have to say about it--when they're not yelling at each other.

So, nose around, try and have some fun, and ignore the Blue Meanies! ;)

Yeah... let me throw some oil in the fire, I'd hate to see it die.

I can never decide whether "barefooters" make me want to laugh or get pissed.

People who call themselves "barefooters" are the first to bitch, cry and whine when others tell them what to do... yet they want to tell everyone what to do. Discrimination? What discrimination? Were you born with some sort of a horrid ailment that prevents you from putting on a pair of flip-flops when a business owner requires you to have footwear ON HIS PROPERTY? HUH??

Talk about diluting the meaning of the word "discrimination".

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for abolishing the public nudity laws... (Toronto rocks, heeh)... But don't you bunch of ninnies and crybabies presume to tell people what to allow and disallow on THEIR property... you'll get your barefoot arses kicked seven ways from Sunday before you can say "toe jam".

I think that this is a major misrepresentation of the majority of barefooters. I support and accept differences of opinion, and the right of store owners to run their establishment however they want.
I also think discrimination is not a helpful word to use for this. It is simply uninformed pettiness, and I think the best way to handle it is to educate people that being barefoot is healthy, safe, and liberating, and to support and shop at establishments that want our business more than they want to be petty.

    Peace,
    Ryvr
