But poetry isn't just sound...I mean, it's part of it, but there are people who seem to take words for granted by just spilling them across the paper because "they sound good together." God bless Bob Dylan, but he did it, too. Granted, he did it tastefully and Morrison didn't...

Please don't base your opinion of someone on the basis of having seen an Oliver Stone film.

That said, I'm not much of a Door's fan these days for reasons of my own that are too numerous to mention. I just don't want to get into it. Their music represents a time in my life that I don't care to dwell upon too much.

AMEN! I mean, it was like that movie about Bruce Lee who was played by Jason Scott Lee: Are we supposed to believe that the founder of Jeet Kune Do actually fought a demon and defeated it with a pair of nunchakus? And as for the Doors movie, there was a scene there where a bunch of dancing Native Americans in traditional garb suddenly appeared onstage while the band performed. Are we supposed to believe that thing actually happened?

Not everything you see in a movie about a real person is based on fact. Unless it's a documentary.

I loved the movie, granted Oliver stone viewed him as a drunk asshole during most of the movie, you had to look at the other aspects of his life. It's not a documentary, it's a movie. What i got from it, he was a extremist ( not the right terminology) but when he wrote, he wrote with his soul, when he drank he got smashed, but most of all he was guy who was very passionate, which draws it's own positives and negatives through life.

I like what I like. You like what you like. He likes what she likes and she likes what I like. She likes what he likes and I like what he likes.

And that's exactly why I like him.

I don't think it requires an analysis. I like the way his voice sounds, I like the music behind it, and it reminds me of a fun time in my life.

Bill O'reily would say that that's not an argument.

    Or the weakest argument possible.

Everything in life is a matter of opinion and taste, that does not mean that a group of people cannot analyze someone's work. You claim that you do like the Jimbo... defend your stance... doing so would generate great discussion.

Thank you Dollydagger (the last two syllables of your name help me to take you seriously as a sharp, cutting edge individual) So, that being, I appreciate your sharing this rather lovely poetry from Jim. I am glad to get a perspective to broaden my rather narrow, Hollywood induced opinion of Jim Morrison, and will now have something to balance the rather negative original rant of my previous post. If I looked into every aspect of his life, I would probably understand why he was the way he was, and why he did the things he did, and even love him as another human being who needed love, but I still don't think I would find him very good company. He was just too excessive, and I have a hard time being around that spirit.

first and foremost - fuck bill oreilly----i dont give a damn what that man says

why should I defend my stance?? isnt that what I have been doing? OK.. I'll spell it out...I love his lyrics(despite other's opinions as "junk") I love the music....yes, I know, Jim didnt write the music, but I love the rest of the members just the same. If you wouldv'e titled this thread "whats there to like about Robby Kreiger, or John Densmore or Ray Manzarak, Id defend them just the same. The Doors does something for me on the inside that I cannot describe...its a feeling that I get, and that I love.

I completely understand ad respect you last sentence, and why you feel that way.

But remeber, things arent always as they seem. Shit, im painting him to be some kind of demi-saint----i didnt know the guy, and I am probably completely wrong. But i love his art aside from his personal life. I love Warhol's art, but I dont think I would have ever wanted to meet the guy

I hope everyone's aware of the fact you don't have to like the artist to appreciate or even adore his/her music.

By the by... why are people so down on left-brained people. I am mostly left-brain and I don't see why I should be considered inferior to someone who is more right-brained. Guess what people, science is important and it is mostly done by more left-brained people.
