What's The Purpose Of "friends" On Hip Forums?

Today, I went into my profile and noticed a lot of "Friends." Where the fuck did they all come from?

I went thru and deleted a lot that were inactive for more than a year and mostly those without an Av Pic.

I have kept a few that have been inactive but whom I really got to know over the years I've been here. Sentimental that way.

Still, are there any benefits to being in someone's friend list? Anyone can respond to anything on the forums and I think can see about anything here, including my profile - or is that only open to friends?

 

I think that picture albums marked private can only be viewed by friends. That's the only difference I know of between what friends have access to and what all members can see.

 

For starters, access to "friends only" picture galleries, where content is unrestricted. We only ask that you keep minors off your friends list if you have things in those albums that are legally restricted to adults only. (Mods can see everything.)

There is also an option available where you can choose to accept visitor messages only from friends. There used to be a similar restriction available for private messages, but I can't find it at the moment. It may be gone.

"Private" means you and moderators only. That's different from the old software.

 

On the old board you used to be able to see a list of your friends that were online when you were, on the left side of the screen. I still miss that. I don't know if I have any new "friends" since we started on this new format.

I don't know who most of the people on my friends list are...it is some imagined protection shield, I think, or to give that appearance anyway......this is my wall of protection. yeah, sure.....LOL

if you have a friends only album, people wanting to look, will be intrigued, i like the old system, they had to ask to be your friend, but i will delete those i dont know...

 

There is an option that you need to approve a friend request first. ^

Well, i learned you can privatize your main page and make it not seen by everyone but only those who are on your friends list here from this thread....so i will try to figure that out later.

I think I was active on this site for a about 3 years before I found my profile page.

I should really get round to putting an avatar pic up one day....

 

is there any reason to have a private album then? i can't think of any situation where that would be useful, unless maybe you have a crush on a moderator and want them to see your nudies.

 

I also noticed that the default setting on here is that anyone can add you as a friend, you don't have to "accept" their request, like you used to. So if you have a friends-only album that you really only want your approved friends to see, make sure you change your settings so that you have to approve friend requests.

 

I get a notification when one of my friends posts a status update. That's all I've noticed so far. I have noticed that a lot of people managed to add me as a friend without my noticing though.

 

Maybe if you're putting a new album together, or making major changes to one you have, you might want to set it to Private until you have it the way you want your friends to see it. I did that once, when I uploaded a bunch of new pics but didn't have time right away to enter all the descriptions.

It's not a very useful setting. Mostly, it creates more work for moderators when people send us private messages asking us why their friends can't see their pics.

 

or if you're a female or have one in your avatar. i did a friends list cleanup recently too and i think i deleted more zero-post perverts than the number of actual friends that i kept on there.
