What's been people's experience with streaming? According to this some people are cancelling some of their streaming services.
It is fast becoming a scam. Reputable channels offer the service free, but we have to accept the adverts. Since I want to stream a program so rarely and it could be on any channel, subscription services would cost a fortune per viewing. Life these days, is just one scam after another. Needless to say, that does not include HF.
I'm on the verge of cancelling Sling because of the aggressive, targeted and repetitious ads. I know ads pay the bills for the operators but come on, the same five or six ads every single break? DVR + fast forward doesn't work on every channel- some force me to wait for the commercials. Not once have I ever seen(or heard on radio, or internet popup) an ad and said, "Ooooo, I need to buy that". Never. And the programming is really in the tank. Day after day, in the guide I see back to back to back to back episodes of Big Bang Theory, That 70s Show, NCIS, Doctor Pol, etc. Also the same movies over and over. It is ridiculous what I get charged for the garbage I get to chose from. The main reason I stick around is because of the channel variety I have, but it's leaning towards not worth it anymore.
You sound as if you need a nice cup or tea after all that ranting. PS. I agree with you fully; so my kettle is on.
There is a cup of Sweet And Spicy decaf green tea waiting for me right now And the television isn't on..........
Get Tubi, Plex, Pluto, Stremio but especially Kodi. All free apps. Yes there are commercials with most programming, but the range of titles, and live tv, including networks is amazing. Some offer pay as you view for new releases. On a few to get the most programming you may need to install add-ons, like Kodi and Stremio. Kodi and Plex can also handle your music and video libraries.
Can someone clarify how exactly streaming was supposed to affect the money that those striking actors can make?
Here's a price comparison between streaming vs cable. "The price comparison is not always so simple Although it’s undeniable that streaming services have grown more expensive in recent years, it’s certainly not the case that any combination of streaming services is going to be cheaper or more expensive than traditional cable. For one thing, cable costs can vary pretty wildly depending on what region of the country you live in (and numerous other factors), whereas streaming costs are the same for everyone in the same tier. For another, you can choose which streaming services to subscribe to, which allows you to choose which costs you incur. Cable has some selectivity, but the base costs are always much higher than they are with streamers. As a result, it’s not really fair to say that streaming is always the more expensive option, although it’s now true that it can be the more expensive option. If you’re the kind of person who has trouble managing subscriptions and gets charged for services you never or rarely use, then the streaming era may even be costing you substantially more than you would have paid before." Is TV streaming really that expensive?
On another related hf thread which id hafta digup. A couple of yall said its possible to tune local tv channels ofline on io or android device. Id like if possible to return to that subject. Im told all i nd is android antenna. Aint particularly in streaming rite this sec as none ive seen offer true local for free. All i currently get on a giant old antenna is 18channels. Most everything up to pbs. Or me or cozytv. I simply like unplug once in awhille. Sadly there seem to be no more offline fm apps on googleplay. If i ever get an app call padtv working it does have radio option. That one keeps saying no device detected. Currently working on a 10inch phablet to install all of it.
Old contracts didn't consider streaming royalties. So that's one thing. In the future, which will be almost all streaming, the industry didn't want to pay royalties like before. In addition, technology allows producers to use an actor's digital voice and face so contracts need to give the artist their share of profits.
I was wondering if there was a connection between the increase in streaming fees and the recent actors and writers strikes? "The increase in streaming prices by platforms like Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, and Hulu can be seen as an attempt to offset the additional costs of paying talent more due to the demand for residual payments from streaming." https://screenrant.com/hollywood-actors-strike-writers-strike-streaming-blame-christopher-nolan/
I don't think there is any direct connection, but I do think that a lot of streaming services might have seen the strikes as a chance to do something their subscribers have balked at for years. If there were going to be less new products to keep subscribers then they would have to charge more to keep subscribers. (Twisted Logic)
