I'm assuming you pulled this thread out of the sticky which concerns wax. This thread might interest you (link below) if you want to read more about the the topic. I don't know why this one isn't sticked, I think it was the most comprehensive of the many wax threads.

Sorry for quoting such an extreemly old post... But that letter's pretty good.

I'd like to think that my unsanitary neglect dreads are closer to "downright scary" than "messy" :D

I like the part saying all ethnicities except africans think of dreads the same way, and africans are automatically extatic to see dreads. Has he forgotten that all modern homo sapiens will end up with a loc, nazerite style, at the very least, if they do nothing to their hair?

Because the loose hair and fuzzy dreads is like your initiation before you get your locked in ones.

i have to shamefully admit i was one of the sucka's that saw the youtube vid and got sucked into dreadhq. i HATED the feeling of the wax and the girl i kinda know that said she knew how to do dreads put even worse crap in my hair that would stick to everything including my face so even tho she spent 5 hours backcombing i couldn't stand it anymore and had to wash them out. i kind backcombed some that unraveled and then did some t and r also and put rubber bands in them - which i know some say is good and some say is bad so hopefully i made the right choice but otherwise i'm just washing w/ that mixture of backing soda, rinsing w/ apple cider vinegar, using spray of sea salt water and also using tea tree oil which has totally been amazing for the itchy and dry scalp. they are feeling sooooooooooo much better now. i'm only at 2.4 weeks and am so stoked to start seeing changes and progression!

As soon as I saw this thread title, I was thinking oh man this person is going to get flamed. The answer to your question is; the thread is full of fundamentalists who love to push their views and opinions. They take their own personal preferences and force them on everyone else who has dreadlocks because they believe their way is the right way and any other way is the WRONG way. Their really is nothing wrong with wax in moderation. It is sticky and harder to clean. In moderation its a perfectly find variation to maintaining dreadlocks. Most people in the forum prefer the au natural, let your dreads do its own thing, method. And that's fine, is it for everyone. No....but everyone will force their ideals on you anyways.

    Peace <3

We're helping the world by spreading word of its horrors to the dread noobs.

I never used wax when I had dreads. I still don't think those who do use it should be treated like shit.

Id have said treating them like shit would be more to do with their attempt to defend an untenable position rather than the fact that they use wax.

    This^

I am so sick of people complaining that this forum is full of "elitists" or "fundamentalists". We are one of the few dreadlock forums that tends to promote a natural way of locking. If you don't like it, then get the fuck out and go to DHHQ or one of the other 3,000 wax sites on the internetz. Don' let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

At least he/she found an actualy post about wax rather than adding new thread about wax. That would call for a flaming.

The thread is referenced in a sticky, so it's obviously not considered that dead yet.

Either way, pypes just said that anyway, good job:D

There's nothing wrong with promoting that. I wasn't saying there was. I was speaking of those who flame those for using wax. It's not necessary, I get everyone's preferences obviously most people would rather have natural dreads. And when I said fundamentalists I wasn't refering to everyone in the dreadlocks forum either I meant the entire site and it is obvious that there are many.

I just mean to say that for the few people who prefer to use wax there's nothing wrong with that, but everyone will treat them like shit on here.

And on that note, I'm not going anywhere. You're just going to have to deal with the fact that someone doesn't share the same opinion as you.

    1. I can say whatever I want. I DID say something similar to Pypes because I AGREE with Pypes. Welcome to message boards.

    2. It's pretty dead AND the answer to her question really couldn't be found in here and doesn't really have anything to do with wax and why most people don't reccommend it. It's more of a shopping question than anything AND the answer could have been found via a search. The search function is your friend.
