ICE is the part of our government that deals with illegal immigrants after they cross our borders. They house them, feed them, give medical care, move them around the country, transport them back to there country of origin when necessary. All being done by sub contractors hired by ICE. The thing you might not know is that most of these sub contractors are owned by our fellow congressmen and senators. Having worked for one of those sub contractors, I learned lots of things, things I wish I never knew. The more immigrants that come over the more money these people make, so why would they want to make a law that would slow that down or stop it.
They are stealing Construction jobs and other highly skilled jobs from US Citizens . At one point, I was a Cabinet Maker . As soon as I trained the Illegal Aliens the trade, my Republican Employer started firing the American Citizens at the Cabinet shop. The Government should fine the employers , $ 5000.00 per Illegal Aliens instead and that would solve the problem .
Oh dear tjr1964. Why do you think as you do? You've already acknowledged that Republican employers are firing US citizens in favor of immigrants. So; they're not stealing your job. For some reason, the employer considers them better value. That may be because they are more productive or that they cost less. Perhaps both. But the problem/issue lies with the employer and not the person hired or fired.
A healthy economy should be able to absorb immigrants without displacing native workers. Are heavy regulations and taxes constraining job growth? Are heavy licensing requirements restricting entrants into an industry? Is crony capitalism chrushing a particular job sector? What can be done to add housing units? Are water and energy available at reasonable rates? I'm sure that there are more. Its harder to absorb the non-documented. The present level of mass immigration is too large for the economy to absorb into documented work.
Congressional Republicans block any attempt at immigration reform because (A) persecuting racial and ethnic minorities titillates their racist and xenophobic electoral base, and (B) they can use lurid tales of "invasion" by filthy brown-skinned foreigners at the "open" southern border in a nefarious scheme to "replace" White people to verbally bludgeon Democrats and frighten the ignorant in their 60-second sound bites for Fox News. They're not in the least bit interested in governance; only the accrual and exercise of power.
Sorry,,,,,,, but the intrusion of over Ten Thousand border jumpers each day transends any and all partisian egg throwing. Sorry but our Justice Dept., Homeland Security, Immigration & Naturalization are all in the hands of Our President's appointees. This is not a question of immigration reform, not at 10,000 per day. Please note the plea and cry of Mayors from our largest cities, are the Mayors Republicans? Please remove the quotation marks from the word: Open.
Here's something to think about while formulating criticisms for US Immigration policies, lack thereof, or indecision on policy; The majority of countries around the world deal much more harshly with illegal immigration. Some will put you on a plane, or other public transport back to your country of origin "At YOUR Expense." or if you can't afford it, they will lock you up until you've paid the equivalent of a plane ticket home. While others will simply walk you to an international border and make sure you don't cross back, and don't care how you get home. Still others, who do not have treaties with the USA, will simply lock you up in prison as a criminal. An not a segregated prison either. Gen Pop all they way. Doesn't matter if you speak the language or not. We all have the luxury of criticizing ICE and other agencies for how they deal with illegal immigration. While not ideal and not pretty, at least it isn't Draconian.
Wow, blows me away .... the Irony, I am of Comanche ancestry . I guess it's your turn to get over run with foreigners , Pilgrim !!!!
No. I was being paid $ 23.50 an hour and the illegal aliens were being paid only $ 7.50 an hour , the Republican employer did not pay into their Medicare, Social Security, pay any taxes from them, had no insurance incase any of them got hurt and most produced decent quality work, at best . Eventually, one of them suffered an injury, a saw table (5 horse powers) that didn't have a safety guard was taken off, a board "kicked back" at one of themand partially impaled him and another lost a finger tip because one of them drop a 4'×8' foot cabinet on a guys hand ... he fired both . Plus the quality of the cabinets were not that great . He eventually wanted to hire me back, I declined because the guy was a total racist and I was disgusted in his inhumanity. He used listen to Rush Limbaugh in his office .... the hypocrisy of that employer .
What’s in the Senate’s sweeping $118 billion immigration and foreign aid bill? What’s in the Senate’s sweeping $118 billion immigration and foreign aid bill?
Immigration policy is a huge con game played mainly by the Right in order to control the sheep they manipulate. The Left is trying to do something about it in terms of reform, but only half-heartedly because they understand how we benefit from the exploitation of undocumented workers. So here is the thing, there are an awful lot of jobs that an awful lot of Americans do not want to do. From working in the fields to canneries, roofing houses, working on fixing bridges that get hit by massive out-of-control cargo ships, to cabinetmaking----OK, that last in particular is a pun. No offense. But seriously----you get the picture. They are doing the jobs that no one wants to do, and after all they are skilled, so they may push out some workers in skilled jobs that Americans want to do, and, because they are undocumented will do it cheaper and put up with stuff an American wouldn't do. Most of the food you buy from the grocery store was produced by undocumented workers. And the prices are relatively low because of the fact that they are undocumented. No American will do those jobs that cheaply, and even if the wages were much higher, they would still be unlikely to do them, and if they did, they would not do it anywhere as good as these people do. In fact, some of you might remember in the height of the credit crisis, Louisiana, which is the main source of tomatoes for our country, enacted some strict immigration laws. This chased away many of the illegal immigrants. Then the tomatoes ripened on the vines, but there was no one to pick them. As I recall, unemployment in the US at that time was exceeding 12%, it may have been much higher. So an immigrant rights group advertised nationwide that they had thousands of jobs available. This is after they tried using prison labor which did not go very well. As Stephen Colbert said at the time, "Who would have expected that someone who walked 5,000 miles across a desert in order to feed his family would be a better worker than someone who chose a life of crime?" There were many thousands of jobs to pick tomatoes. But only 2 people showed up. One person who came to seriously pick tomatoes, and Stephen Colbert who showed up as part of his political satire on The Colbert Report. He joked around, and quickly decided the work was too hard, and as a joke, he pulled tomatoes out of the other guys basket to put in his, rather than pick tomatoes. This stunt later enabled him to appear before a Senate hearing to report on what he learned in his research on the matter. Tomatoes are still higher priced because of this. Republicans, especially in big agricultural states like Texas know how much they rely on illegal aliens. That is why they don't write laws that are more draconian and restrictive. Arizona, for example, does not have the agricultural industry that Texas does, so they enacted a racist law that allowed them to check the papers of anyone they thought might be illegal. Texas would not do that, because they actually need the workers. But they will talk tough and make up stories about the border in order to manipulate their sheep. There are other important considerations as well. For example, an economy cannot sustain growth if the population does not grow, We do not have a growing population via the citizenry, so we have to have immigration in order for our economy to grow. There are other benefits as well, such as the fact that we collect taxes from the employers of undocumented workers, but the workers do not file taxes, which would give them refunds, so that is extra money the government receives. Now if there was actually immigration reform, and we expanded the H-1B visa program to allow people to come here and work temporarily, we would have to pay those workers suitable wages and provide other benefits such as health care. It would be more costly to the US, be very inflationary, and to top it off, we are not equipped to process the number of visas needed to provide enough people to meet the needs of our nation. So for example, Trump's wall is a very expensive racist joke. It benefits one person---the Canadian steel Magnate who first talked about this stupid wall to Trump, and his company is building it. Skinny people and children can certainly fit through the slats of the wall, or hand bags of drugs through. And people can climb over it with makeshift ladders and so forth. It is a very expensive and stupid joke that does nothing but stand as a monument to our nation's racism. So the Republicans will continue to raise a stink about it, but really do nothing substantial, and the Democrats will try, time and again, to enact reform, but, you know... Trump uses immigrants as pawns in his mechanations of control, causing a lot of suffering and pain.
Oh my! Words and facts! Many words and facts! How can I read all that? Clearly it's all bull. I KNOW migrants bad...very bad. No use trying to bully me with words and facts there Wofie. Guns, God, and ......something....something....something.... MEREKA forever!
The issues RepubliKKKans have with immigrants, totally reveals their ironic hypocracies in every way possible. They should go after the employer, 100%. That will end illegal immigration over night. I've done many phases of construction; roofing, framing, drywall and cabinetry. Illegal aliens are not super workers, they're good workers and bad workers, just like any American worker. The thing that make them more attractive to American Employers, they are exploitable, disposable and a constant flow of exploitable people. America was 100 % built on exploitation , Slavery and Genocide.
Having directly experienced us leaving the toxic EU, I see the funny side of all this. As reductions in their status and benefits were reduced, thousands of migrant workers returned home. We had months of headline news, about fruit and crops rotting on our farms, because the farmers had no one to exploit harvesting them. Try finding a company in the UK to manufacture everyday low cost underwear.
The problem is not the government so much as it is with the people. We all want things that cost less. Decades ago China, Japan and other Asian countries discovered that they could produce televisions that Americans would buy because they were cheaper. As a result no televisions are made in the US anymore thousands of workers lost their jobs. Look at roofing companies. Most are owned or employ Latinos. They work for less but from what I have seen the quality of their work is not quite as good. Two blocks from my house is a Latino family. The house has at the most 4 bedrooms but there is usually 8 cars in their driveway at night but none during the day. I've seen numerous children playing outside. I think this is one reason they can work for less. There is probably 15 or so people living in a house.
I read that because of the boarder enforcement we don't have migrant workers anymore just migrants who stay. It makes sense if the boarder is easy to cross come to the US work make money for a wile then go home where its cheaper to live. No chance at finding the article I read that years ago.
Twice in the last decade the boardwalk at Seaside Heights had to be re-built. in 2012 Hurricaine Sandy damaged it. Two years later, a big fire burnt a large section of the same boardwalk. We would visit often and noted that immigrant laborers were doing all of the heavy work; working under the hot sun. It left a strong impression. Appreciation for those who were working. Gratitude for their presence in the absence of native born people. Still,I do not support the chaos that went for "policy" of the last four years. Do not support Mass Deportation, only for those who are a threat to others.
