I brought my laptop to work so that I would write, and now I'm on here. Terrible self-control.

The Spanish magician said: "Watch as I make myself disappear"
And then he counted out loud: "Uno, dos" and then *POOF*. He vanished without a trace.

Have you ever tried using a dictaphone? I take mine practically everywhere and it's great for getting ideas down. Or scraps of dialogue that suddenly occur to you.

I have not, but I have considered it. I don't know if I'm too self-conscious to speak into it if there were people.
The idea is I write it all in notebooks, and generally I do... but I am aware that there is a MOUNTAIN of those scraps that went in my head and out again, never to be recalled.

But right now I need the laptop because I am going over something finished. I am going to self-publish, and I now have everything in place to do so, except a few bits that need tweaking. I'm terrified of discovering those bits when it's in a book form.

Me and my girlfriend were on the sofa last night, getting all hot and steamy.

She whispered in my ear "Shall we take this upstairs"?

I replied "Go on then, you grab this end and I'll get the other"

Have you heard of "Writer's Magazine"? There are loads of competitions in there, and you can win money, and it's good for your cv if and when you approach literary agents and publishers. I'm getting ready to submit my first entry this week. I'm only writing short stories right now because that's the stage I'm at in my writing course. As this year progresses I will start on a novella.

OoOoOoohh.. yes I want to do this. I haven't seen Writer's Magazine but it has been mentioned to me before. Recently I looked up a list of competitions with cash prizes, for poetry and short stories... and whenever I start thinking about this I get so inspired. I have so many ideas. But I haven't been able to focus properly on anything else than my book, and I came to the conclusion I had to get it finished and out there. I always said I'd do it the traditional way, but having read about the process, spent WAY too many hours stressing over cover letters and synopsis's, and then learning that the average time between first submitting a manuscript and publication (IF you even get there) is NINE YEARS... I thought fuck it. Grovsner House now has a self-publishing service and I'm going to go with that. I honestly don't care if I never make a penny off this book, I just want it to exist and I want people to read it.

Well done on being about to submit your first short : ) I love short stories. I'm reading a collection of them by J.G. Ballard right now.

My grandson got out of his mom's car this morning needing to have his shoes, pants, back pack, the floor of her car, and the front seat all wiped clean from dog poop he stepped in right before he got in her car at their apartments.

We had a good laugh about having a "shitty morning", lol

The grandkids are 11 and 12 so they enjoy a good shit joke, now.

I'm just glad that he laughed instead of letting it upset him before school.
