I think I may have just learned what happened to my cat Bane.

The claim we have a big cat active in the area.

I know there was one spotted by my son and his friend but that was 20 years ago.

 

This is right. I always think there seems to be a lot of passive-aggressive judgment on both sides of this particular conversation. "MY love is infinite" VS. "MY love is exclusive" and it really is just different.

 

Morality is inextricably entangled with the concept, so naturally there is going to be judgement.

I have a problem with violence

Morality is subjective and people should learn to better withhold their judgment on things that don't impact their own lives.

Ideally that would be the case but then it begs the question as to what good is morality if it's not applicable to most the group or population?

 

The good of it is to yourself. I believe in developing your own moral code and holding yourself to it. Some people believe sex outside of marriage is immoral - I don't. I also don't think either of us is wrong.

 

Just because it is subjective doesn't mean it isn't any good. That we benefit from morals doesn't change after acknowledging that they're subjective. Believing that is like believing atheists are ought to be immoral deviants because they don't fear God/have to fear Gods law (and therefor supposedly would have less need for morality)

 

Surely the line has to be drawn somewhere though? Granted this example is a bit of a slippery slope but you could imagine someone that doesn't have any moral qualms with killing people and then what? everyone who doesn't know the people that were killed is supposed to be ok with that?

 

That's why we have laws and a justice system. Because we know people don't always act on their morals or don't acknowledge an important one like don't kill.

 

Um...That falls under the category of murder. We've established that making love isn't murder.
