What's Happening???

I stayed in a pretty rough neighborhood when I went to Miami, i was there for a show so we just stayed in a hotel by the venue. It was fun though, the neighborhood grew on me, it was authentic and off the usual tourist track..and I went to South Beach too. I really liked South Beach. Miami has a fun energy to it

 

round here, anyway. it's a condition of living in certain towns in the south. the city councilmen, the lawyers, etc, live in gated communities, and everyone else can 'go to hell' as they put it.

apparently not being rich makes you a worthless sinner, and no better than garbage.

frankly I think it's ridiculous, but hey.. I'm just 'white trash' around here, anyway. (some places really haven't moved out of the 50's. we have a town nearby called 'whitesboro', and it's proud of its kkk heritage)

by 'rich fuck' I wasn't applying it to you or anyone else that lives in a decent, progressive town where they don't still have burning crosses, or /celebrate/ the time they rounded up 40 'union sympathizers' and mob justice style hung them in a tree in the middle of town.

so, poorly worded I suppose, but the people /here/ are rich fucks, because they have very little humanity, and think they're decent people because they're WASPy and go to a church that's 'started lettin the negroes and mexicans visit'

That’s a great way of putting it. I think it’s unfortunate for anyone to have to live with bars over their windows tbh but it is what it is in some areas. It’s one of the more cultural districts of FL, too. I’m glad I got to visit.

 

this. poorly worded, but that was my intention to convey. because if you don't live in a low-cost tract house built prior to the carter administration, you're either in a trailer house, or you're in one of the gated communities. the south still very much has a caste system in place, and if you're not born to the right family, your'e trash. so, a bit of resentment there.

@Meliai north texas, a little spithole called Gainesville. bills itself as /the/ 'medal of honor host city' but we have over a thousand homeless, and half of them are veterans. our previous hospital supervisor was indicted for dipping into the 'indigent care fund' to line his own pockets, the only insurance company in town belongs to the mayor (or one of his cronies) (deep breath) I'm gonna stop before I really start pouring out the dirty secrets. it's just part of the giant gaudy belt-buckle of hypocrisy that is the south.

one of my friends a few years back.. his dad had a farm on the outskirts of town, well, some land came up, and it was bought up by an HOA gated community. They sued and got his farm shut down (despite being nearly a quarter mile off) because he was violating the HOA policies, and his farm (grain only, btw) was an 'eyesore'. once he got shut down and pushed off his land, they bought it up, had it rezoned, and built on it. /those/ are the kind of horrible people I mean.

 

Somebody gave me a garden gnome that yells when you come close.

I gave it to the grandkids.

There was a lot of small town corruption like that in the town I grew up in. So much for small town southern charm and hospitality

 

let me see.. I always get wichita falls and mineral wells mixed up

hwy 82 west, through bowie... yeah, iirc, it's about 80 miles off.

 

Western Nebraska was like that too with the small town corruption. :/ What a racket.

 

gainesville really tries to self-fellatiate on the whole 'small town america' idea. I'd be happy if it choked on it.
