What's Happening???

I want to do get my DNA tested and also research my family tree with Ancestry UK when I can afford it. It's not an awful lot of money but I have a few other things I need, and finances are tight.

I'd love to see if there is a Greek gene as is rumoured within my family.

 

It's fascinating, and the stories are so rich.

I just learned that the little girl, to the left of her father, died of consumption when she was 18 years old.

 

Ah that's sad...

I know my maternal Grandfather's family were poor farmers in Scotland, but little else really.

 

What's 'Ancestry UK'?

Please keep in mind most websites that charge money for this kind of stuff are primarily a commercial enterprise.

Of course these sites are money making enterprises. But they provide a service. Ancestry UK is the biggest and most trusted site of its kind here. They have millions of records of all kinds and you can build up an accurate picture of your forebears which is based on fact.

Obviously DNA is a murkier business but going back three centuries would still be interesting to me.

 

You never know Asmo. We could be related.

Was kind of setting Asmo up for a come-back joke but he hasn't taken the bait lol.

 

Just so you know there's a large chance on being fooled if its portrayed that your proposed ancestors of before 1600 are just as certain as those afterwards. It's not an error, its deliberate. A lot of people already know their ancestry of about three centuries back and seem to use these sites to dig further...

 

They've been competitors for a longer time :-D

But they traded and had other connections since the beginning of history (which starts relatively late compared to southern Europe but still )! Also, an uncertain amount of Frisians joined the Angles, Saxons etc. etc. in their migration to England so its possible there's a link I'm afraid...

 

Well thanks for the information. I guess it's just a bit of fun for me and I will research the trustworthiness of these DNA tests further.
