YouTube is updating its terms of service. I wonder if video posting will be effected. First thing I noticed was in order to watch a Ween (music) video, it wanted me to sign in to confirm my age.

 

That "sign in to prove age" has been there, it's not new...

I was supposed to "prove my age" to watch Jefferson Airplane "White Rabbit"... Something about "possible drug references" in the song.... For fucks sake I WAS ALIVE when that was recorded. Seems to me I'm old enough. Besides, I've done all the drugs referenced in that song already, a long time ago.



Also, I can't "sign in" if I don't have an account.

 

Oh I see. Well they've adapted something or other. I can never understand the terms of service on a website though. Here's a link to their new ones...

you wont be able to watch age restricted stuff, but most wont be effected. can sign into youtube with google mail account, it dont need anything special .

People misuse youtube and put their porn videos on there. Stuff you don’t want to even dare to post up on here.

Is there an alternative to You Tube?

 

I know that the latest version of this forum's software allows videos.
But it depends upon if this happens here or not.

 

vimeo, picarto, several others i forget. vimeo is the big one. depends on what you want the alternative for.

vimeo is partially like what youtube started out to be, a place for people to share movies and animations they create themselves,
individually or on a small scale, rather then corporate media which seems to have over run youtube, well that and the tin foil loonies.
but vimeo is focused heavily on self promotion too, has features that are to help with that, so its not strictly ideal for my purposes either,
but you will find, i think more interesting and truly unusual stuff on there, then on what i feel like youtube has mostly become.

i mean seriously, echoing corporate television, complete with commercials, give me an effing break.
vimeo hasn't gone that route from what i can tell, they just try to promote a premium for pay version instead.

there are a couple of other places used by artists for online visual streaming as they work (with a chat channel on the side), and for sharing their playing of video games.
picarto is the one that i can remember the name of, but there are at least a couple of others like that, the game company 'twitch' has one i think.

youtube still has cab ride and rail fan vids which i like, and i have channels of my own on both youtube and vimeo,
but i seldom get around to uploading to either of them because of bandwidth limitations where i live.
