I just started reading Crime and Punishment and I am enjoying it so far. I need to read more Russian authors, because I always enjoy them when I read their novels.

Family reunion and a 3 hour drive today. Not looking forward to the traffic, but it will be nice to see the relatives and their respective offspring.

Flannery O'Connor is a good southern writer. She does a sort of southern gothic thing, her work is very dark

The day after Christmas is always a little odd. Like you're not quite ready for the new year and to take the decorations down, but you know that the holidays are coming to a close. I'm not ready to let go.

Now that the food coma has worn off from these past few days, I'm going to work out! I've always been into fitness, but this year, I want to become really strong. Like if the zombies show up, I'll be ready to take on the end of the world. #nyresolution

when i was 4 years old, there wasn't any place i didn't belong,

but then, where we lived, everybody's neighbors kept each other informed of where their kids were and what they were up to.
and did so unobtrusively so the kids wouldn't know about it and feel the had the freedom.

but then again, in those days people didn't think poverty nor wealth were an excuse to be inconsiderate, the way they seem to think both are today,
and the example, they didn't set the example of being inconsiderate, at least not openly in public, of each other.

i'm not saying kids were always kind to each other, but there was a lot less looking for things to tear up, and no one set the example of claiming it was ok to do so.

(that where i grew up were small towns surrounded by wilderness and the total human population was less then a quarter of what it is today, may have had something to do with it,
but i believe the culture really was different, that people were more aware and thought more about how to not make each other's lives difficult. this could have just been where i was though)
