    It's a bit overcast.

Hubby went to the doc this morning for his regular with the pain vultures.

Son is on 3rd day of reporting for jury duty and sitting in a waiting room all day.

    I feel fogged in.

I did receive a cute little Happy Buddha statue I had ordered for indoors. I'm setting up his space around him. Happy Buddha is happy.

    It's too quiet in here.

    We're all sad.

Piper has gone home after staying a week and of course the kitten, Sassy, is gone.

Every time that I turn on the kitchen faucet, Willow comes running to look for her in the sink because I bathed her there pretty often.

I'll turn on some music for Emma and the cats before I head over to the girls' house after school.

It's funny to watch the 13 year old throw a fit for her pain pills. She's not in much pain. They are 5mg. Hydrocodone and the rest is Tylenol but she's learned they make her loopy.

The stupid E.R. docs gave her #80 of them!

Her parents are going to start weaning her off them.

Oh no, that doesn't sound good. I think doctors need to be more responsible when prescribing stuff like that. A lot of addictions start at the Dr's office.

I know! Her parents, hubby, and I are floored that they'd give her that many!

She cannot go to school on them. She has to just use tylenol and ibuprofen.

She had laparoscopic surgery to suction out her tiny appendix. She doesn't need all that narcotic.

Her dad is going to save them for the next time he has a tooth go bad.

They always prescribe too much. I'll never understand it.

Not for me they don't. The most I've ever come out with is #20.

True, they don't for some, but they definitely do for others.

Have you tried ashwagandha? I tried it in capsules off the shelf a few years back with no effect. I thought I'd give it another try, and ordered some organic powder (with no fillers) a few weeks ago. I definitely feel some relaxation. I thought I'd give it a few weeks before advising anyone to try it. I take an eighth of a teaspoon on mornings that I feel that I'll need it. I definitely feel more than a little relaxation along with an eighth tsp of l-theanine.

I don't think I would take it every day though, as there haven't been any long term studies done on every day use...Unless you want to count the many people from Asia and the middle east who have taken it every day throughout centuries, and seem to do ok.

Oh, and for sleep...I might not touch ambien again. Ashwagandha works great for me when I need something for sleep.

Hmmm sounds interesting, if you think about it I would love to hear an update after you've tried it for a few weeks! I've actually had some pretty bad anxiety develop the last few weeks and am interested in some natural ways to manage it.

I actually did finally try kava, I found out there is a kava bar in my town. It was a fun experience hanging out at a non alcoholic bar but other than that I didn't get much from the kava. The bartender (I guess?) Told me kava requires a very high dose initially then the more you use it the less it takes to feel it.

So, I hung a curtain rod today... Yay me.

Okay... I had to manufacture a Cherry wood do-hickey for one side bracket to hang on and while I was at it I made the matching piece for the other window.

It still doesn't seem like much got done today...

I did a tad of laundry, a tad of cooking, a tad of dishes and wiping things up...

I was worn slap out after vacation.

Now, I'm rested but I feel mopey. I'm still sad about my kitten.

Hulu has done away with the free content.

Sawe a couple things on expedition unknown that I thought I might like to try...kava was one of them.

It stayed in the upper 70's outside last night and it's humid as hell out there.... High 80's to low 90's today. So yeah. Gonna be a might bit warm inside today, I can't get a breeze going to cool it down.

You crazy northerners with your crazy ideas of what hot is.

I kid I kid. That 100* temp didn't bother me even wheneed I was in nj.

I got a relaxed social enhancement from kava, but only from the powder that I ordered online. The otc products did little if anything for me (extract might have caused some relaxation, but could have been placebo).

The powder caused more than placebo for me. I threw my package of powder away after I realized the expiration date was over 2 years old (after mentioning the powder in this thread, a few pages back). All I remember about it is that it was Fijian. I don't know the name of the name of the seller. I might think about ordering again. Right now, I'm testing ashwagandha.

I'm doing a kind of a double blind (I won't know which capsule I'm taking each day, but since I'm the test subject and tester, I'm not calling it double blind).

I'm putting individual capsules of turmeric, curcumin, baking soda, sugar, cornstarch, and ashwagandha(to the right of the turmeric) in small gladware containers, with their labels (on aluminum foil) placed upside down in the bottom. I'm only using one control capsule each week, with a wash out period of 2 days between controls - so I will have only ashwagandha and one control each week.

I spin the table each morning and select the container closest to me. I write down the container number, close my eyes(so I don't see what I'm taking), and take the capsule. I then put the lid back on and and place it back on the revolving table. If an empty container ends up close to me I take the next one to the right that is not empty.

I'll keep note of how I feel each day. I might only go 3 weeks with 3 control capsules, but I might do 4 or 5 weeks to be sure. At the end of the trial, I'll match the numbers with the foil label for each week, then I'll compare my subjective notes on my daily feelings with whichever substance that I took that day. I'll report back here.
