The only people in my city who will walk up to you ask for money are dutch homeless and/or drug addicts. They never do it near the entrance of supermarkets! I think there may be some rule against that or something. They're generally on the route from my place to the train station. Which is through the city centre. Hmm now that i think of it they ARE in front of the supermarket in the middle of the city centre. Busy square in front of it and all. No gypsies though (as far as i know).

Wild! Gotta say we don't have anything even close to that here. Worst I've had was someone tap on my car windows to ask for money. I've also seen a local homeless woman parade her child around, claiming the kid was dying from brain cancer and asking for money for her treatments. I have no idea if the girl really has brain cancer, and I hope not.

^yeah that's kinda sad either way, either the child had cancer or is being used as a tool for the mom's general shittiness

Once while several miles outside of any town on a long country road my ex boyfriend and I were flagged down by a guy who fed us this long story about how he needed money to buy his dad's prescription. It was weird, I'm used to being asked for money around suburban shopping centers or in the city but never in the middle of nowhere. My ex handed over a $20 and the guy told us where he lived and told us to stop by for dinner sometime lol. At the time we thought he was legit but i've been fed the exact same sob story a couole of times now so I dunno.

The coolest panhandler I've encountered was this blind, homeless Asian guy who would play violin in the same spot every day. He played beautifully, I worked nearby and would park my car near him on my lunch break just to listen to him.

I reside in the city of Groningen. But grew up in the countryside, where I still am at least 2 days of the week when I'm working.

When working I visit lots of supermarkets in Friesland and several also have this gypsy type people btw, trying to sell homeless newspapers near the entrance. I think they get dropped off in the mornings or something... they don't live there I'm pretty sure. It's always just one person and they're rarely pushy. It used to be mainly dutch homeless people who sold the 'street news' (as it is called). But now these ones do it. There was some controversy about it awhile ago but i forgot the details.

I moved out to the country a few months ago and I must say there are no homeless people here. Or too many people at all. But there are a lot of farms, and a nice spattering of cows. I saw a turtle the other day, too. He was ambling across the street. It's nice because I'm still fairly close to a city if I feel like being around people. I do miss being able to walk everywhere though.

There aren't really any homeless people in my city anymore. Well I don't actually live in the city, I live in a small town 10 minutes outside of the city...but this thread has made me realize I haven't seen a homeless person in the city for a few years, used to see them all the time. The city council has done a lot to present an image of this clean, progressive urban utopia. Well, it has succeeded for the most part but kinda sad to think about whatever it is they did to get rid of homeless people.

Most of the homeless people have congregated to a tent city behind this congested suburban shopping area now, last I heard there were like 200 people living in the tent city

I one of my older brothers to the eye doctor today. That was pretty fun. We don't hang out very often. He's 9 years older than me.

I also took the kids to the park after picking up my grandson from his golf clinic. It was hot so the didn't play more than about 20 minutes. At home, after lunch, I took them out to play in the water hose. That was fun. I haven't done that in years.

Robby has a recital tomorrow with the Austin Chamber Music group. (she plays cello.)

Yep, as I sit here and type these words I can here the mellifluous melodies of a Bach etude wafting through the ceiling beams from upstairs.

Hmm..at least I think it's Bach. I'm not sure. I told her I want to hear some Pachelbel's "Canon in D" before she finishes, though. My favorite! C
