I'm planning a trip to New Orleans next year and I'm a little nervous to be honest. My city has some bad neighborhoods but as long as you know where to avoid you're pretty safe. My favorite place to see live music here is actually in a horrible neighborhood but it has never has any problems. It mostly attracts people from other parts of town but occasionally some locals wander in and never cause any problems.

Any tips on where to go/stay in New Orleans?

I'm not going to be the one to bring up black on black crime in a gun control thread lol, the neo nazis will come out of the closet and absolutely relish in that line of conversation.

And anyways, black on black crime is not neccessarily a gun problem, it is a poverty problem.

and crazy ass white mass killers are part of a cultural problem too, but at the same time I don't think we should just hand them high capacity assault rifles that allow them to take out 50 people in a matter of minutes.

and that's all I'll say about that, I don't want to ruin a chat thread with gun talk.

Gun violence is gun violence and when a bar or club dies out due to such an accident/happening poverty can be the underlying problem but it would still be a gun problem as well, and it would be worthy to take that stuff in account in such a thread, esp. when it impacts a whole street that used to be fun and draw a fun crowd.

That the people were black, white or purple is not why I found it curiously ;) Just the plain fact that gun violence is really ruining people's night life and this is one of the first times I see that mentioned on here.

If we would go on about this (which is entirely optional :D) I would prefer to that in a thread about gun talk too :)

Completely different dynamic from mass shooting events. Feel free to bring it up in the thread Balbus has going.

Short answer: After trying a variety of hotels, I'll never again stay anywhere but the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street. It's a perfect situation in every way. As a New Orleans noob, you'll be able to stay quite busy doing stuff on Decatur and Royal (and associated cross streets) in the French Quarter during the day, and Bourbon at night. Some of the best quality entertainment is actually inside the Royal Sonesta, and guests get first shot at seats. Roaming around Bourbon Street at night, it's the 700 block that you have to be especially careful about. That's where the only black bars are located.

Long answer: A couple of years ago, I wrote up a much longer thing that I'll PM to you. More information than you can use in a long weekend, but better too much than too little.

I've branched out a lot over the years, even exploring a little bit of the local Voodoo culture. That town is like an onion. I still don't know how many layers there are, but I've gone in pretty deep, and there's always more.

Yea I see where you're coming from, and is usually the first thing that comes to mind when people bring up allowing guns in bars, etc.

But it isnt really a problem in my city, it has happened a few times in shady night clubs in bad neighbgoods but nothing that would really shut down a street or cause an economic downturn, so i've never thought about it really. I know others have brought up gang related gun crime in Chicago, usually as an argument against gun control

Got the watering done... It was oppressively hot at 10:30 AM. It's not humid, just oppressive.

Forty-eight hours after my husband and granddaughter taunted me into trying to "Twerk", the soreness leads me to the great understanding that my twerker is broken.

Being that it's Father's day I was sitting here thinking of all the good times I had with my father. It lasted less than a tenth of a second.

My daddy mellowed more and more with age. I really became closer to him after the birth of my children. I wish I'd had that feeling for my entire life, but I'm very thankful for the last 10 years of his life that I spent really knowing him.

My dad mellowed a lot too. Part was the wisdom that comes with old age, and part was parkinson's disease.

I'm sure everyone here wants you to get at least as old as your dad.
