I just received an email from a company who think that I need a £429 gaming computer chair to sit and chat on HF.
The chair is made of GENUINE PU leather (cheap PVC) and for an extra £29 they will send me some leather restorer to clean it. Looking at the size of the bottle, I would need about 3 of them every time it needed cleaning.
They must assume that idiots are a dime a dozen on the internet.

PS, I was so tempted to call them and ask what breed of cow produces PU leather. It would have been such fun to hear them dreaming up a reply, particularly if I had told them that I wanted a brown chair with white spots. .

I am not usually difficult to talk to, as most people realize. But I do love winding bumptious idiots up.

One example was the day that a company told me that they could not supply items for the RFP for 3 days (which would have been after the performance). I casually asked them to ring Mrs Windsor and explain the situation, then gave him the phone number of Buckingham Palace. The items arrived via a motorbike courier within the hour.

On another occasion I asked a decorating company who kept pestering me for work, to quote for painting the ceilings of the Sistine Chapel. They never even bothered to visit Rome and measure them up.

Another funny incident during construction of the Richmond Filmhouse was when I asked a company to deliver to a friends house who was nearer to the site.
A few days later, the driver rang me and said, "Was I dreaming, or was that really Richard Attenborough who opened the door". He said that his wife would not believe him.
People seem to assume that people in the film industry don't have homes to go to. Perhaps they all live on another planet.

 

I hope not we find out.
