What's a chav/kev?

Those words keep coming up when I'm talking in message boards and such. What do they mean anyway?

 

There's no American equivalent. You have to see a chav in person to get it.

TLQ - If you can get "Little Britain" on BBC America - the girl in the track suit going "yeah but no but yeah but no but yeah" with nine children at 19 and multiple court appearances is a chav.

Chavs don't have to be schoolkids. You can't claim dole while still in school

 

the website did help. and we do sorta have them here in Canada. We call them ginos or ginas. they wear soccer jerseys, thick,tacky gold jewelery, whore hoop earrings for the ladies and tight ass pants. Ick, I can see why so many people despise them

 

I think im starting to understand chav-ism. Is Ali G From Da Ali G Show play a chav for one of his characters?

 

Chavs seem to be what the kids call them these days... I'm used to hearing them called Pikies.. (Pie-Keys)

No. As a Brit and a Canuck, I can say that the Gino is NOT a chav.

The Gino culture is similar in musical taste, but wholly different in execution. Imagine an urban trailer park dweller trying to be a rastafarian Eminem clone.

 

I think its a bit much labelling people in a council house a chav.. Bit stuck up that!!!

I don't do names.. In my world.. If I say chav.. its because I stole something (not that I steal) I just mean.. "oh I chaved this or that" just another word for steal to me

Chav comes from an old Romany word 'chavi' meaning child.

Oh give over.. Don't try and make out something of what I wrote.. I mearly said what the word means here.. No one calls people chavs here..

Chaving is basically slang for taking something.. Its been said forever!!
