Just my bank card, hmmmm I think of Cree Indians proverb. They knew someday mankind will have to answer the question from Candy Gal. It is the best question I ever came across. Sadly lot of people think of their wallet and not human life!
If I can vote for the best question here. This question from CG is the best question I have seen on this site. I do not think people realise the serious nature of the question. Well done CG and it is a great question.
Did you know how important your question is?People who have never seen a war or made experience don’t have a clue what it is all about, people dying and bombed. I come from country that had 25 years of civil war. UK not seen a war as yet and I pray it should also never see one. However some countries especially in Europe are govern by nutters. Your question is a very important and a valid question. Nobody should be naive to think it happens only in Ukraine. This is not to joke with. See how the threats today from North Korea. Do not think the war is happening far from UK. A person who thinks that, is living in a fools paradise. Ask Ukraine people how they react with bombs raining on there home. They do not think of bank cards and wallets, they think of saving, the children and elderly and their families. God bless you all and peace be with us.
I think I'd take just some clean underwear. A pair of trousers, a warm sweater and my bank card. It must be compact and easy to carry.
this is why everyone should have a bug out bag, already packed, where it can easily be grabbed, on the way out the door, with what you have had time, have that time right now most likely, with precisely "what you would take". my obvious answer IS the bug out bag. that's what its for. that's why the military has drills. so that when you don't have time to think, you're not in the situation of having to. you have trained into yourself the right reflex, that will save your life, or at least has as much chance of doing so as anything else. and while being bombed is not the most likely scenario for most of us, there are plenty of other unexpected events, that might require our lives to depend upon leaving our familiar surroundings, at once, and without further preparation. house fires, armed robbers, flooding, forest fires, all manor of natural disasters, depending on location, climate and so on. i have in mine, neccessary legal identification, a laptop computer and a bunch of usb drives with my backup files on the. a couple of other odd little personal momentoes that may or may not be of any real practical value, such as bars of silver and a lensatic compass. other small items are always in my clothing that is next to my bed, these include bank card, several forms of photo i.d., current prepaid transportation pass, keys to get back in, a small clock, handkerchiefs, and several sticks of gum. there are many things that would be more useful to have in yours then i have in mine. a first aid kit and maybe a bottle of water. when i lived where i was taking a lot of long walks all the time, i would carry a somewhat larger pack, with in addition to those, a change of clothes for warmer or cooler weather then when i started out. oh i do have, a couple of spare razors in the small minimal bug out bag that i have now. depending on time of day, weather and season, i would also grab shoes, if i hadn't had time to put them on, and a coat or jacked with its pockets preloaded with handy items. the last thing in hell you want to have to do is waste time grabbing momentoes, let alone dithering over which of them to grab. whatever you're using for a bug out bag, have them already in it, if they're that "can't live without". and with all that, at the same time, don't try to stuff the entire house in it, because the whole point, is you might have to run, even run for your life, while carrying it. that's what you have to balance against, how much of your stuff, how much weight of a bug out bag, can you run, while carrying. three hours? three hours? you really think you're going to know three hours in advance? well if you have three hours and some kind of car, sure, throw everything you might want to keep into it and take off, as quickly as you can. still don't wait the whole three hours. just still have most of what you think you need, as the car being where you keep it, but not visible through its windows. don't waste time waiting for everyone else to jam up the roads. besides, if your already on your way, three hours, you'll be either far enough away, or if the all clear sounds, plenty of time to drive beck. as long as you haven't wasted the time. car? you can have a couple of days or more worth of food and water, of kinds that don't rot, just in there all the time. i mean if you enjoy taking a lot of road trips you're gonna have that kind of stuff in there all the time anyway. (if you don't, what's the point of having a car unless you live where there isn't any public transportation?)
I already have one - not for going anywhere, but in case the Paramedics scoop me and take me to hospital !!!
