well if i didn't have to worry about things like food and water, the whole wilderness would be my home, so technically i wouldn't be homeless. i'd just look for places no one would notice to set up shelter.

of course for many people in real life this is not an option. to this there exists a solution. though it may mean having to stand in line much of the day, and spend at least a portion of exposing one's self to potential brain washing. however, for this, some might say modest price, as it is, after all, a non-monetary one, there are these things called homeless shelters and soup lines.

i mention these not as theoretical possibilities, but as a matter of practical personal experience. the reality of which is by no means glamorous. quite often it might be down right distasteful. but they do beat death by starvation or hypothermia.

But on my story for anyone curious, I ended up having to drive a few hours south west to get some personal documents Ide need wherever I go in life. Overdrafted a year old pay card for a tank of gas. Kept going west currently in alma arkansas where I ran low on gas, stood by a gas station holding a sign looking for work for an Hour until a cop told me that's illegal in arkansas( if I didn't have so much on my plate ide love to fight that as a violation of first amendment rights) but I left to head to macdonalds to use wifi to search for some labor work, had a wreck... Was thinking about other shit and pulled right out in front of someone... Seriously the nicest people I've ever met. She kept asking if I need to call my parents, where I live etc. and it just hit me hard and made me cry.. She has a son my age and started crying too.. Gave me 20 bucks, got me a hotel room hookup for the night from local church, told me not to worth about the car I totaled after the cop informed me my insurance had been cancelled. Called a guy to fix my truck bumper which had bent in so far it was rubbing the tire hard therefore undriveable. Bought me dinner tonight and say down and talked a few hours, and is letting me use her law mower tomorrow to go door to door asking for work.

Sometimes what seems like a life ruining situation, turns out to be just what you need to get back up. I thought I was about to go to jail in some random town no money no phone no vehicle, no one to call, but her kindness has literally saved my life.

It's almost like it was meant to be, all the events that led to the encounter with this amazing woman.

I really don't think you understand the massive amount of difference between being REALLY broke, alone, and homeless. I mean I wasn't gonna say anything because it's obviously an important time in your life and I'm sure it should be, but there's a major difference in being broke and homeless and deciding you want a divorce and moving away from home with 9 friends, and having to work some crappy jobs while you wait on your big ass settlement check.

Hipstudent, I was giving you shit talk because I have been there. I am lucky in my own regards, but I also have it tougher, too. You have a chance to get away from shit and make yourself bigger and better. Fuck it- just do it.

    Keep your chin up.

I don't think you understand, it took me a year of some hard times because I did what I did, I wanted to do it but it was a bit tougher then I had imagined, for what ever reason we find ourselves out on the road we still try to survive and that was my point. Those nine friends and I parted ways once here if you read that part, some found something to stay for some hiked it back almost immediately for the safety of the job they had before coming here.
My whole point to the story is you can do it and you will if you have it in you. And it seems already you are having an interesting time even tho the accident looked bad at first.

Hopefully at some point in time when you are able to do so, you will return the gesture to someone who needs a little help and compassion. :)

I remember being homeless. If you need to, walk through restaurants to use their restroom. On the way to the restroom, take a mental inventory of the leftovers on the tables. On your way back out, snatch it up from the tables and stuff what you can into your mouth; the rest you can just pile up into your hands as you make your way to the door. No one who works in the restauant will stop you unless you steal tips. Don't steal tips no matter what. If you smoke, take the half smoked cigarettes from any ashtrays. You can't do that today, what with the crack-down on smoking.

When winter comes and you need to sleep, hitchhike along the interstate. Don't wait for the driver to ask where you're going. Ask them how far they're going immediately. Whatever they say, you say that you're going just a little farther. And then sleep.

I noticed here people who are homeless and smoke will go to work site smoking areas and dump the ashtrays in their pockets. Also seen them come to our work place entrance when I worked there and ask people leaving work for a smoke, one woman one day gave a guy her left over lunch she didn't eat that day.
Lots hang out behind restaurants to do the dumpster diving thing, restaurants throw out a lot of food, even half and whole loves of bread that they don't want to use the next day.

If I were homeless, I'd go make friends with some under-paid parents and offer to babysit their children. Instead of them having to pay for day care they could just let me crash somewhere in their house and feed me.

Well currently living in a homeless shelter in colorado I crashed here one night on some mats in a large room with like 40 people and it wasn't too bad breakfast and dinner free you just gotta do a chore I found a full time job about a minute walk from this place making 8 an hour for a temp labor service but they hire mostly criminals and homeless within cars so I usually drive 4-5 people per job site and they all get 6$ out of their daily check put into mine. So I'm pullin about 100 bucks a day here and the shelter guys noticed I'm working hard to actually make it not just getting drunk as shit and passing out here every night like most people so they gave me a bunk in the back room I hadn't even noticed before for the 8 of us who are really trying to make it. It's nice washer dryer everyone's on a bunk bed nice patio showers n stuff. Don't have to worry about people stealing your shit.

That's my physical stress I'm doing good spending about 10 a day splurging on a cigs and a gram of colorado weed maybe a 99 cent drink.

Mental stress however. Had to talk my mom into talking my grandmother into allowing me to use my old phone number to start a new contract under my name. She decides she's gonna turn it back on under her name for some reason.... Which really annoyed me but I text her and said thanks anyway. Basically she went off on me all day about how I shouldn't have left I explained I had nothing there but she acts like the whole getting kicked out fired and losing my phone thing never happened.... Pretty much mad as hell I'm not coming back but in truth I can't afford it and I still don't know if ide have a place to stay or job if I did or if she's neglecting to realize those are 2 things I need due to the fact she has been so rich for so long she doesn't think about small financial problems... I really like it here and I'm starting to save money and can really make it. But also I'm facing the dilemma of I'm taking advantage of a homeless resource to help me save money and make it on my own when in reality another person could be here and I could go back to tennessee...

What do you guys think I really wanna stay but is that being an asshole ?

Well i dont know what you want. When i became an adult i knew what i wanted. So i went out and worked for it. (It took some luck too) but i got what i wanted and in less time than i thought it would take.
what is it that you want...and which choice would make that happen quicker/easier.
if i were you i would work where you are and try to get an apartment on my own or maybe with a roomate i trusted.

homelessness happens. largely as a result of trying to make everything have to be about money. its not about what anyone thinks they owe anyone or what they don't. its about what the hell kind of a world do we each want to live in. and just because the employment marketplace doesn't welcome introversion, doesn't mean there's a damd thing wrong with that either.

Id stay and reap all the savings you can to make a start. You are not hurting anyone or taking up a 'spot' for anything more than drunks it sounds like. Its not something that can be done over night or a couple weeks. Im pretty sure there are true bum's in there going on a couple years that haven't been sober since then!
Going back home in the context you made it sound, You are mommas and grannys little bitch boy and if you go back and show up, You confirm it. You have made it this far on your own, A little further don't sound like it will hurt much. If all else fails go back home, But you didn't waste time leaving for nothing.
Id want some $$ to go back home, The way you were treated, They owe you now for the shit they put you through and I would treat and talk to them that way until they realize what they did or you don't have to deal with them anymore.

You can ask the people that run the shelter if they think you are using their resources well or not.

I think it's probably ok for you to stay there for the rest of the summer until school starts.

If you finish school and get a good job, pay back every penny that shelter gave to you plus some.

This is my view as well. Make sure you pay it forward in the future, when you can afford it.

I would find a tunnel of a disused railway.
