It's kinda scary watching hillbilly's predictions come true, I dunno if I wanna read any more, lol!

There might be some good that can come from all this, though, depending on the severity of the collapse, and how you look at it. I've been laughing at the political meltdown caused by the proposed bailout. The scum bags who were once united in shafting the rest of us are now coming unglued, infighting amongst themselves, and pointing fingers at each other, it's a beautiful thing.

Now the politicians are fucked 'cause no matter how they vote on the bailout, chances are the general public will be pissed off come November when it's time to be re-elected, and there's not enough time between now and then for it to blow over and be forgotten. So they'll get their asses voted out of office, and maybe then we'll get some progress (though I won't hold my breath).

Once again we're reminded that deregulation in a capitalist economy doesn't work because greed is an inescapable part of human nature.

As the corporate behemoths collapse, that could lead to an end to corporate culture as we know it, which could be a good thing. Sure, collectively we'll experience a decline in our standard of living, but so what? I'll gladly compromise my material wealth for spiritual wealth in a community that values people and families over the almighty dollar, particularly when it's not worth anything to begin with. Replace the corporate chains with mom and pop stores, and get rid of the bloated executives at the top of the food chain (they don't do anything productive anyway).

As the dollar tanks, it'll be key to pull your money out of the banks and the stock market, and invest in self sufficiency, like farming and sustainable energy. There's no point in keeping your money tied up in investments when soon it won't be worth the paper it's printed on.

i love the way you put that, sounds great doesnt it?
Anyways im not even worried about the system collapsing. To be honest I kind of like the idea and feeling of chaos when you have to resort to basic survival instincts. The collapse wouldn't change much of my life anyways. It may prevent me from going to college but im totally fine with that. Im planning on living a life in the woods anyways. My cousin has a house up in canada where he is almost self sufficient. He is totally off the grid energy wise, the only thing he needs is to grow more food, which i could help with. Im planning on heading up there at some point and helping him start a small commune. He inherited around 300 acres of beautiful forest with a few lakes so we have more than enough room.
Ive been collecting literature on edible plants, sustainable gardening, survival tactics, sustainable living and anything that might come in handy for my life. So whether it collapses or not i will be ready :D

...Another way to look at it is that what we're experiencing is the end of an era, the end of an empire of imperialism, and the timing couldn't be better, with the Bush administration on their way out. Too bad we can't tar and feather the bastards, and throw rotten fruit at them as they leave town, like in the old days.

And it's great to see the footage of all the greed heads on wall street, scuttling around like a bunch of cock roaches in the kitchen with the light turned on. Poetic justice, baby!

Mind you, I'm no stranger to the corporate exec mentality, with a number of them in my extended family. It's always a hoot at holiday dysfunctions to hear them spout about their mcmansions, their BMWs, and their golf games, because it makes me realize how boring, hollow, and miserable they are. Yet they look at me with disdain, like I should sell out, cut my hair, and change my ways to be more like them. Not a chance. They've traded in their humanity for a bunch of useless numbers. It becomes an obsession, an addiction even, like alcoholism. They're addicted to making as much money as they can, yet they don't even produce anything real, they're just high stakes gamblers. Maybe when their empire collapses, they might get the opportunity to become human beings.

We just beefed our food supply up to a years worth this weekend, we figure were not interested in waiting in store lines or food lines.

A lot of people say “we are going to the country and living off a garden” that one survival method but most of the time it doesn’t go so well in system collapses.

In Latin America everyone I knew that tried it either got all their food from the farm repeatedly stolen or run out by military groups. You always hear of people fleeing the country in time of anarchy.

We have a few plains and are ready to travel light in the middle of the night if we have to, but plain on staying it out with our community.

But hopefully things will be just a non-violent deflation.

This week should be interesting markets have started in Israel and are diving quite steep.

they are looking like they will dive in Europe and the U.S. also.

Yeah we basically got about 170lb of flour and 100lb of rice and a bunch pasta (no beans… beans are ghetto) it was about 2-300$.

Were going to get some other little things like soup bullion canned tuna.

We looked like we were shopping for a restaurant. lol

The shame of not being at all concerned for my own personal predicament.
    No food stored.
    No guns bought.
No moving my money to a Irish financial institutions.
    Nothing.
Gee whiz, I've only read all of this thread today.
Seems about 1/3rd has actually come to pass.
    The rest has not yet.
I'll keep abreast of this now that I know 1/3rd of it might come true.

beans are not ghetto, there protein and i think you will find that 170 pounds of flour will only last 6 months at best when your cooking all your bread etc from scratch. we go through ten pounds a week.

We do about 2 loaves (6 cups of flour) a week between 2-3 people right now that would probably double if we stopped eating out and such.

I think we get 12 loaves out of 10 lbs about 200 loaves out of 170lbs I don’t know 6 month to a year, a while, add hungry neighbor kids into the formula and it could last 3 months.

Beans are a good survival tool but I’m not much into survival I am into living and beans are nasty. I wish we could afford 50lbs of almonds but that is way out of our price range.

We don’t really want to put to much meat in the freezer in case electricity gets patchy which happens a lot when economic systems collapse.

So hopefully the deer population stays well.

We just have the basics now and are going to add to them today a little and we will add more depending on how the conditions progress.

And after all the basics we will need coffee..

At this point if the system manages to stay going functional hyper inflation will kick in a prices will go way up so at the least food supplies are a good investment right now.

wow,, we love beans here lol,, eat a lot of them,,even though we have a almond tree...
acorns are a good source of protein as well, just a bit of preparation time involved, but if ya got nothin but time...

we figure if power becomes a issue we will run the generator long enough to can, smoke or otherwise cure whatever is in the freezer..

we have plenty stocked of essentials except for tobacco which we need to take care of,not that it wouldnt kill us to quit..

make sure you remember spices, oil and salt and sugar..
