i'm really not sure how to answer this without a picture, which i do not have. i used to have a few shirts that i wore to various high school sports practices that basically disintegrated on me. so probably one of them.

    :)

I wore mismatched socks as I still wore socks but no shoes. In the end there were only a few without large holes. ;) Eventually I throw them away as all were holey like a swiss cheese (or worse).

My acid blue vans have holes in the toes.I still wear them to knock around locally but I know a lot of straight folks would use the dirty hippie tag on me.

For vans with only holes in the toes? Oops. For me they would have to define new tags I guess. As I was wearing shoes falling apart literally. ;)

I don't get new clothes, I get most things out of dumpsters, like a lot of jeans. People often throw them out when they start to get bright spots that will be holes soon, so that's about as new as they get for me. I get most of my shirts at yard sales or thrift shops, at 50 cents a piece I just grab whatever really cool ones I see, so I have a huge stash, I can go months without doing laundry, and have a cool shirt every day.

If nothing bad happens to a shirt, maybe 5+ years. Jeans go for between a few weeks and a few years, it all depends. They get retired when they're either not comfortable or look too bad for my most casual/dirty outfits/jobs.

    -----lecture begins here------

I mean, I don't think it's cooler to look not only homeless, but the type of homeless without the self-respect to dumpster-dive a pair of pants with a waistband left (like OP, apparently). I dress appropriately for the situation. Even if some situations allow for more leeway in getting extra wear out of clothes, or will inherently mess up clothes, or allow for whatever I feel like wearing to be comfortable, more worn out is NOT inherently more comfortable. Some things wear in nicely and I like them when they're old, some things don't, but just wearing the nastiest shit you can find and pretending you're more comfortable for it (I'd say you're mostly more unable to run or move normally, or do normal tasks) is pretty stupid. You don't have to dress up for respect, but if you constantly use every bit of leeway you have to look like you don't respect yourself, you will run out of leeway.

You can be casual without being trashy. You can wear clothes a long time, if you're reasonable about it. What OP implies is not reasonable, it's asinine. I've probably worn much more torn up stuff out and about than you have, it's (what I perceive to be) your approach that bothers me. It reminds me of the absolutist barefooters who are really just attention whores, and do things that actually are bad for their feet, when they could just be reasonable and not wear shoes when possible, and wear the right fucking shoe for the situation when necessary.

Stop playing poverty games. It's not cool to look like shit. It's fine to sometimes not be concerned with your looks, but then you wouldn't start a "how shitty do you look in public" thread to get off about it.

I understand that I'm reading a lot into your simple post. I think I'm reading correctly, and no denial on your part will change my mind.

You're getting a fashion/self-respect lesson from somebody who spends a lot of time shopping in other people's trash - you'd do well to take it.

Slart, I knew this was you that started this without even looking. haha

I have a few pretty ragged hoodies. The cuffs are all tore up. I have one I wore all the time in high school that just has holes all over it. I dont wear it anymore but I kept it for nostalgia. I put it on about a year ago and posted a picture on fb. It was funny how many people said they remembered that sweatshirt over 15 years later.

I don't really do ripped or torn, however I do make my own clothes and wear recycled/repaired clothes.
I like the feeling of older used clothing, but I like to make them last as long as possible so I tend to patch or customise my clothing as it wears out or gets holes :)

I also like the feeling of old, worn in clothes. And making your own clothes is great. Unfortunately I don't have the skills needed for that.

For some reason I like holey, ripped, torn things. Don't know why and honestly I stopped thinking about it. It's like it is and as long as I can I'll just wear what I want to. :)

I have sensitive skinn, so anything rough against it, usually bothers me....which is why i hate new stiff jeans...I love them when they are old, soft and raggedy.....clothes to me have to feel like a second skinn......
