If their ancestors came from Nigeria, would they be North African North American?

What if the person of African descent isn't even from America?

I've witnessed many people mistake some Canadian black people and Jamaicans as "African American."

I was just about to ask a question about what would happen when a white person moves from Africa to America. I really hope she identifies herself as "African American" on the Census.

I don't really buy into the concept of race at all. All differences are related to culture, not race. A black person from America does not have a strong genetic or cultural link to a black person from Kenya. It does not make sense to me to lump all black people together as one single race, or all white people or all asians for that matter.

How 'bout the people of Liberia?
That nation was formed by freed slaves from the slave trade in the Americas. Would you call them American-Africans?

Negro is as awkward (if correct) a designation as Caucasian. Black and White is just simpler, if differentiation is called for. And I'm all for simple.
