Manchester (with trips to Morecombe, Lancashire) UK:- As a "Child in/of the 6Os" - I became aware of the aromatic essence and Free loving culture from an early (around 7 year) age At the time within squat/commune within the city and 'traveling folk' that roamed the sea/country side of warm Summers ago, the free spirited individuality at the time was all about Love-in, the Peace full co-existence and tolerance with others, though with strong conviction of fighting for the Right. It gave rise to so much Creative imagination, Profound and Expressive oration within an environment full of the Embracement of life that was today with a Hope for better days future. Time moves on and I find I have so many fond memories of Yester-Years; even though they were hard, bringing back the "Good old days" mind-set. - How was/is it for others?
I found the 60s to be a little dull. At the time, I was merely a preconceived, non-existent, sperm cell. All I saw was nothingness, and nothingness was I. It was peaceful, yet not very exciting.
Oh thats so funny BSR...you could be a stand-up comedian if that alcoholism thing doesn't work out for you.
I was practicing the art of "crash and burn" on my bicycle... I got pretty good at it too. :wheelchair:
from about 67 to 77 was pretty much the golden age as far as i was concerned. people had the right idea. architecture, science, people being interested in being creative. even doing ordinary things creatively. so many things went forward well, though of course not the same in all places. but for the u.s. i think that may have been kind of its peak.
I was a kid in the 60's..... I watched it on television at the time and nowadays I catch it on the reruns
I had steel wheel roller skates strapped to my shoes. Cruising along at a good pace I hit a small pebble and skidded on it for a second until I landed on my face on the sidewalk. Good times. Good times.
i spent all of '63 and half of '64 looking for more time machine fuel crazy times those were but i survived
Indeed. Remember how Alexander I of Yugoslavia got assassinated? Or the Great Depression? The start of World War II? Industrialisation of the Soviet Union? Gandhi's peaceful protest against British colonial rule? Amelia Earhart, the first female pilote? What a decade! Those where the days.
The 60's paved way for a wonderful decade to follow, just 5 years after the summer of love I lost my virginity and took my first acid the same year. Good pot was 20$ an ounce, microdots .50 a hit, didn't need condoms because all the girls were on birth control, no AIDS, no cell phones, no internet, almost everyone drove American cars... and no one I knew ever discussed politics or religion! T'was all about sex, drugs and R&R! Then the 80's happened and shit got weird
Wasn’t born yet but I can experience the 60s through the books that were written, the songs that were sung, the movies that were made, the wars that were fought, and the stories told by those who were knee deep in the shit :2thumbsup: hotwater
Yep those were the days…… the stock market crash, The New Deal; Fireside Chats, Charles Lindbergh, The Dust Bowl, Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone and John Dillinger, The Yankees won the World Series five times. Jessie Owens made Hitler’s life a nightmare, Campbell's introduced chicken noodle soup, Spam, Fritos and Twinkies, The Wizard of Oz and Gone wif the Wind ….and the bird experienced all :2thumbsup: Hotwater
"What was it like?" is one of those philosophical things. It's just about impossible to convey the nature of a personal experience to someone else who hasn't experienced it. We always say "it was like this or that", something similar that was experienced by the other person. A journalist once asked an astronaut of Apollo 11 what it was like to go to the Moon. He answered that when they arrived back on the Earth they saw all the people happy and celebrating. He said that he and the other two astronauts had missed the whole Moon event. That was a philosophical statement. Would it mean as much to go to the Moon if no one else was around to witness it and celebrate it?
