Social commentaries are good. A Clockwork Orange is a social commentary I suppose, but it's also incredibly weird, which is the type of thing I like.

MTV can suck a fat one. I guess their types of things are unintentionally hilarious, but they're nothing to rave about by any means. I've written papers for school with the purpose of trashing their values.

all the above film tou are talking are still good, but I rather watch a film which has a moral lesson to share... OUTLAW is one of my choice...a brilliant film of Sean Bean and Nick Love... good film which is a real state in England this past days...

agreed. this poll implies that the two don't mix. my favourite kind of movies are 'escapist' in the sense that they take you to another world, but that doesn't mean they have less to offer in terms of social commentary. think ROBOCOP, STARSHIP TROOPERS, PLANET OF THE APES, LORD OF THE RINGS. to a casual observer, these films may just seem to be entertainment but they actually contain messages about human nature if you care to look beneath the surface.

i think the advantage of making a statement about humanity within a fantasy/sci-fi setting is that you aren't constrained by the conventions of the time, therefore the implications reach deeper into the human psyche.

Well, I watched both the LotR (RotK) and also the Planet of the Apes..and both are worthy and best films so far...The RotK almost touch my emotions as a heart breaking film...It was a nce film of Sean Bean, and looks heroic..right?
And good to know that his upcoming controversial Outlaw film will officially release this coming friday the 9th day of march and finally judge his next performance in this film...
Sean Bean, is without shadow of a doubt a legend. From Sharpe to Lord of the Rings, Bean has been a dominating presence in British film and television. Famed for his ability to pick challenging and interesting projects - not to mention for being a favourite of the ladies - Bean has carved one of the most successful acting careers of his generation.

I got no clue where this fits in but a good comedy is all I need, and maybe a nice horror movie on the weekend. :p Not really into any of the movie types listed in the poll though. As for MTV... I won't even say anything.
