I was wondering what kind of plants would be good for growing in a basement? There are a couple of windows, but no consistant sunlight coming through. I've been going without, but I think a plant or two would kinda liven up the place. What do you guys recommend?

spider plants are hard to kill and they're on the list of plants that are the best at cleaning crap out of the air.

With little light you would need to bring in rather expensive lighting and fans if you were going to grow weed. For my money, I say grow expensive mushrooms such as portobella or morrells.

I appreciate everyone's input. Unfortunately, weed is not an option for me at this time. I'm looking for a plant to help give my dwelling a little life and color without having to hide it when parents or the landlady come by. I'll look into the spider plant and the aloe. What about vines? Do they require a lot of light?

The best low light plant that i know of is Aspidistra elatior( cast iron plant).

Some others that do good but may need a little more light are : Snake plant( if not overwatered), Aphelandra squarrosa(Zebra plant)....etc

in a real basement, that is not one that is prepared for humans though, champignons are cool to grow... we did that a couple of years ago and it was awesome to have your own food not only in the backyard, but also in the basement. they need the moisture that usually is in basements.

The best things to grow in a basement are cannabis & psilocybin mushrooms.

I lived in a basement for a year (with NO windows). Pothos thrived, and spider plants did well. Like Piney said, most ivy's should do fine.

i live in the basement and i used my old fishtank, and suran wrap and made a terrium. I have an aloe plant, 2 cannabis plants and a spider plant all doing well in it. terriums are the way to go.
