I'm wondering if anyone participating in sports feels that it's made an impact in their lives beyond the esoteric level of physical development. Anyhow- I did some weightlifting today so I'm a tad tired and will check responses tomorrow before work.
oh yea, i am ME because of sports. no doubt about it, if it wasn't for doing all the sports i did, singular to team sports, i'd be a totally different person. i've learned many life lessons through sports - humility, teamwork, how to respond to failure, determination, goal setting, leadership, discipline, how to accept praise, how to be a role model, hard work, respect. i can write in more detail of how i learned those through participation in sports if people want. i can't do it now, but i can if requested. all these things can be learned through other means, but like i've said before, i grew up playing sports, coached, refereed, and now work at a sports camp during the summer coaching. i try to instill these values into the kids i coach. my dad, beign my soccer coach growing up helped teach me these values through sports. and i view wieghtlifting as a sport
I played basketball and did track in elementary school. jr. high, blew knee out jumping hurdles...ouch, ya that hurt. I have a scar from one side of my knee across to the other side. Torn cartlidge. I didnt do anything after that.
I played hockey from age 4 until I was 16... i took the blunt end of the stick in the knee. Shifted my knee cap all to hell... should note, for those that know the difference, that I was playing on boys teams as there were no girl teams in my area. I also curled, but wasn't nearly as good at that. Turns out I fall down on the ice a lot if I don't have blades welded to the bottom of my shoes. Did gymnastics until my boobs sprung up... boobs make everything harder. Played soccer in highschool and was a cheerleader for awhile too. Did TKD and taught SCUBA diving while travelling. I still enjoy skating, but can't do it as much as i would like.
I did baseball up to junior year.......... also did basketball up to freshman year........ and track in junior high...... other than that, no sports.....
I played basketball and soccer throughout all of my school years till my senior year, in which I just did not see a reason to keep on playing. I was pretty good at basketball too, I still go to the gym here every once in a while and play.
I did figure skating for years when I was little. Also played hockey and some basketball. And then thaiboxing since I was 15.
Lots of active people here! I look at it less as a sport and more as an activity for physical maintenance- there's no real competition except against myself.... and time- a battle I'm ultimately destined to lose.
Almost all of 'em. Played field hockey too. Our football, & hockey were funky street versions though. Modified.
I've been dancing for almost twenty two years and it has not only boosted my self-esteem, but it also instilled the idea of teamwork (which does come in handy in the real world), as well as helped me with my coordination and socialization skills. It also has given me the ability to put up with snotty women and girls.
Completley. I am really girly but I was even worse before I went to high school. A few 10 mile runs freshman year in the rain and being told bluntly I needed to toughen up really diminished my spoiled, frilly persona. And the self-esteem for something other than being a goodlooking kid or being really good at academic sports (I was a decatholon and speech geek) was great. being well rounded is really important. Plus I think I would have been a chubby teenager if I wasn't so athletic because i tend to put weight on pretty easy now.
Oh no... here we go. Do I see a hijacking coming up? *runs away* Yes...running... .tis a sport. I dont run though. I swim.
Yeah we are super swimmers here! Im gonna get a membership to the gym within a month or two.. the gym that has a big lane pool and start swimming again... I can't wait. It's so relaxing.
I love boxing. Only did kickboxing a couple times but boxing itself is great... need to get back into that.
foxhunting .....and i put up a human chessboard in the summer ......and we guilliteen the forfighted pieces .....
Hockey Baseball and Swimming when I was a kid . Then when I started beccoming a teen I focused more on foorball and basketball. When I grew, my intrest in MA grew more. I had earned a black belt in TKD so I started takeing boxing. That Kept on for a while and I fought around the state. When I was 17 I started learning Boran and became reallt intrested in it. After a few months I was pretty happy with my wing chin knowledge isnce it seemed to muild flawlessley with Letwhtweie. When I was 19 I started studying grappling arts such as jui jutsu much more. Had a lot of affinity for the, 21 now, and I have a lot more to learn, but I don't know where to start looking. I'm also trying to get a lot better at pool (billiards).
