I just found out on BBC news that North and South Korea both share a large industrial unit near the border between the two countries.Despite all the war-like rhetoric many people have been commuting across the border from North Korea to South Korea to work. This industrial complex was built at a time when relations between the two countries were less frosty, but I think it's a good sign that it is still open.It is a major source of revenue for North Korea so maybe economics will win the day.

On the one hand, they seem so batty they're more likely to nuke themselves, but then again, I'm not one to laugh about nuclear threats easily. As much as I generally try to avoid violence, they need to be dealt with seriously.

Nothing, let him rattle his saber just like we do.

Are you suggesting that's a good thing?

you cannot use sticks and stones to respond to words. when he tries to attack someone, we will be all over him like......wait for it......white on rice.

hes saber rattling, sure. but hes cocky, he'll pull it out, and then it will be on. we wouldnt want to nuke NK, we know better, we have done it before. we have destroyed and melted and poisoned people, human beings and i truly like to think we know better. we could eliminate him easily without nukes.

and i dont think you can compare the previous outright conflict with today. NK was stronger then, their masses of people were better fed. sure, the people are dedicated (brainwashed) but how far does that take you?

I honestly wouldn't fear this whatsoever. Just a media diversion along our paths. In the end, I think the North Korean government will get nuked, and the surviving citizens will rebuild a new society. Least that's my prediction.

Idk, they say a lot of the people there are not religious, but the country was traditionally Buddhist, Confucian and Korean shamanism...I can't imagine those have completely disappeared, but probably continue clandestinely, as the state is officially 'Atheist' and any organized religion is seen as a threat.

Yeah, just like the soviet cult of personality, the personality is just the symbol/front they use, it's really just a system of terror.... the cult of personality may help with rationalization, though.

In 1973 I was in the army in Iran. The Shah was bringing that country out of the stone age into the real world with the help of the U.S.. The Ayatollah Khomeini was sent into exile for being a revolutionary troublemaker in 1964. One of the biggest failures of the CIA, was not taking him out. As a result, Khomeini brought about the Islamic revolution that has made Iran what it is today.

This is what happens when you just wait around to see what a nut job will do. Same with Hitler. If Clinton had taken out Bin Laden, 9/11 would never have happened. So instead, Shrub Jr. takes out Hussein and installs the same radical Shiites that are in Iran.

Everyone thinks Kim Jon Un is just a blow hard, with his nuke threats. So we wait till he drops one on San Fransisco. Sheesh!

Does anyone in foreign intelligence really think they have that capability?

One of the biggest failures of the CIA was forcing modernity that iran did not want, down their throats, through a deal with the massively corrupt, illegitimate shah whereby we got oil and he got fighter jets.

And no number of fighter jets could keep down the will of the people.

Better to divert and change that will peacefully. You can not assasinate your way to a better world. The people where alienated and fucking pissed, that's why khomeni was able to do that. The longer you suppress revolutionary will, the worse the revolution will be. Better to co-opt them early and avoid it entirely.

The Iraq war proved that foreign intelligence is an oxy-moron. Do you really want to hear Obama say, "Oh sorry, we didn't think Kim had that ability."? Kinda like when Shrub said, "Well, we really thought Sadam did have WMD."

Tell that to those that died on 9/11 and WWII. What is the difference between killing Bin Laden before 9/11, rather than after? I'll tell you. It's about 3,000 in the trade towers, 5,000 U.S. troops, and about a million Iraqi's and maybe that many Afghan's.
