I remember not long ago when I was at my mother's house and she had her bird flying about the house. She had to put him in another room because I was so freaked out that he was going to come swoop over me and then peck me to death.

ah, hippychickmommy,i know exactly how you feel. I have to leave the house if a bird comes inside, otherwise the rising panic will take over. There was a blackbird in our kitchen a while back, i didn't stop shaking for about an hour after my flatmate had got rid of it.

my bird fear is terrible - i have to take big circles around pigeons and seagulls and the like, i can't walk to close towards them in case they flap at me....meh

my mum reckons it comes from a time when i was strapped in my pushchair eating a rusk and big fuck-off huge black swan came and ate it out my mouth, cutting my face and stuff in the process.

but even knowing why they scare me doesn't help, i still get hysterical at even the thought of them invading my personal space...and the thing is, i KNOW i'm being ridiculous, so if a bird comes at me all flappily i'll piss myself laughing while crying with terror at the same time
    ak, i'm such a dork!

thats the funny thing, excluding birds of prey, they can't do anything to you but swoop, that is the worst they can do... hehehehe peck you to do death, not to likely (not paying you out, just gave me a giggle)

Wow, no WONDER you're afraid of birds! Geez! I don't have any clue as to why I'm afraid of birds in flight.

to xac - yes but pelicans can grow to 1.82m tall, they must be able to do some damage - fuck me, iwould shit myself to death if one of them came running at me.
i literally have reoccuring nighmares about being pecked to death by a gigantic pelican - it looks at me with it's beady yellow eyes, i try to run but it snaps my archilles tendons with it's massive beak...

and i am soooo glad that NZ's moas and giant eagles (that could and did carry off men to eat for tea) are extinct...as someone who loves and would never eat animals i feel terrible saying that, but holy hell, the moa were so huge and yup, i would die of fright if they were still around.

That's another thing. I bet I know where I got my fear of birds pecking me to death from. My mom told me some kind of crazy story about that. Geez, thanks a lot mom! :p

Oh geez, I don't know what I'd do if I saw a pelican coming at me. I'd probably pass out, I'd be knocked out cold!

ooh, look at this info about NZ scare-the-shit-right-outta-you birds:

There were 11 species of moa, ranging from 20 to 250 kg (44 to 551 lb). While the largest moa (Dinornis giganteus) stood an impressive 2 meters tall at the shoulder,(dear god) New Zealand was home to an equally impressive giant eagle (Harpagornis) capable of killing an adult moa.

I just thought of another thing that I am extremely afraid of. Semi-trucks, diggers, and cranes. I used to have nightmares about those things when I was a little girl.

Now, when I pass any of them, I get the chills.

Oh, and being out in deep water and not being able to touch the bottom. I really freak out over that.

I'm not a bird hater by any means, I am just afraid of birds while they are in flight. They don't bother me any other time. :)

lol, i like them...as long as they keep their distance :p

and yeah, they have life size models of the moa and the eagle at our museum. The eagle has like a 2.5 - 3m wingspan...so even THEY scare me,

eeew, just imagine being carried off by an eagle...by crikey

Oops. That's the thing about the internet sometimes. You can't always distinguish when someone is being serious or when they're just kidding around. ;)
