    Ooh I hate those too!
By using double negatives you cancel out the intended message, ergo...
THEY DON'T EVEN FUCKING MAKE SENSE!

I've noticed these, and various other gramatical errors, crop up a lot in country music for some reason (probably other American music too, but that is my genre of choice). Now maybe that's part of the effect or something, but God it's annoying.

Now I'm getting paranoid about my own grammar, though perhaps that's a good thing.

    Amen to that!

My biggest peeve is '2' rather than 'to', because writing 'to' only requires using one extra character, surely can't get lazier than that.

It also makes things really hard to understand, I often have to read 'text speak' aloud in an attempt to understand the jumble of numbers and letters. My brain is just not rigged up for such a thing, it expects words to be comprised of letters.

Totally agree with your other points too. :)

Dude, my history teacher this year had to lecture my class about how "you" is spelled. ("Y-O-U, not just U") I thought by this age we'd all know that. But what I hate MOST of all the internet speak is words like SHUR and WIFF. IT'S THE SAME AMOUNT OF CHARACTERS! FOR THE PRICE OF JUST SPELLING IT RIGHT YOU COULD RAISE YOUR PERCIEVED IQ BY AT LEAST 40 POINTS!

    sigh.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, what is the difference between the use of ... and .... ?

hehe apart from making obvious examples of bad grammar, you can tell everyone's watching what they write, and making sure there aren't any errors ^.^ oh too funny, but maybe that was just me... :,)

Any type of redundancy. "9 am in the morning" "chai tea" "postpone until later" "ATM machine"

    Gross.

An examination of how English is actually used in the real world discovered that the English language has two grammars, one vague and one explicit, which compensates for rather high error rates. Grammar Nazis, to no one's surprise, are counterproductive, while the English language's second grammar is more vague, allowing people to use it to avoid and deflect grammar Nazis. Essentially, grammar Nazis are no different from other idiots who insist we should all have common sense, when nobody has ever documented common sense as existing anywhere in the world. Calling half the world insane because they don't believe in something nobody has ever documented as existing, is insane behavior.

Get it straight people, the minute you think you know exactly how it all works, you are wrong!

On a more serious note, it infuriates me when some smart ass corrects grammar or use of the correct word on a comment that was obviously posted by someone who had English as their second language and was posting in English for OUR benefit. I often reply "Ydych chi'n hapus gyda fy nefnydd o'r iaith Saesneg". Needless to say, they never seem to respond. Perhaps their Welsh is not up to standard.

On a funny note. I always laugh at the time that we were interviewing an eastern European girl about her life working in the porn industry in London.
Her reply to one of the questions,..... "I don't care who sees my PUBLIC hair",..... was priceless.

  17. Poor usage of periods and commas, as woo demonstrates.

I don't mind that as much as I mind the people who type posts in single giant paragraphs. Makes for unreadable posts.

That's affectation of the poetry I write. For example, I don't use an apostrophe in "it's" to distinguish it from "its" because it makes it incredibly easier to write my poetry. My choice of such errors is deliberate and I had to minimize them in designing my own form of linguistic analysis. There was no choice, because academics have only recently confirmed such things as the English language having two grammars, and I had to figure it all out for myself. The assholes attack anything they traditionally hate, which is a long list of things, like the same fundamentalists they hate.

Basically, I had to design my own lexicon and style that could express metaphoric bullshit logic in terms that could be interpreted in classical western metaphysical and philosophical terms roughly 83% of the time. Quantum mechanics is proof all our petty issues are just that, but it requires extrapolating classical logic to appreciate how it applies to the macroscopic world all around us.

How about writing that uses simile and metaphorical terms to make a point.

"Today, their came to me the conviction that I, or rather the best, perhaps only good part in me, that is music has perished forever. My future life seems a mere vegetable existence", .... (From a letter written by Tchaikovsky to Madam Von Meck, during his period of deep depression). He wrote thousands of similar letters. They have now been published in a book.
