Linux Mint 15 on a 2006 Macbook who's HD died so I replaced the HD and I made it a Linux box. I have a HP Laptop with a HD that's dieing (won't buy another HP, the thing was only 2 years old) that I only use for my Weather station software and turboTax.

Using iOS 7.1 right now...don't do what I do people...stick with iOS 7.0 if u have to use Apple Devices....apparently the expensive glass window in their flagship store near Columbus circle got broken recently somehow....karma?

That is very bad advice. 7.1 fixes a serious security flaw.

OK, you never said what your issue is, but ...
    Hope that helps.

In addition, there are the general tips of

    1. reduce screen brightness
    2. turn off location services
    3. get rid of Facebook app, which is a well-known drain
    4. turn off background updates.

Thanks....I do tend to think that apple intentionally left these exploits (as with all OS other than *NIX). And I think (but not sure cuz I haven't had THAT much time yet)..that it can somehow tell if it's plugged into an apple charger instead of just any other high-amp charger. If it's plugged into another charger it seems to pull a lot more amps from the USB cord, so much that the A-connector gets hot as shit but I could be way off about this cuz like I said imhavent had time to actually take any current readings and compare (or care enough too lol), but the impact on battery performance seems to be on the "minimal" side of things...but there's definitely something going on.

And no i haven't had time to disassemble and look at all Those lovely lines of uncommented ARM assembly which I can't fuckin read anyway ;)

You can charge much faster if you use a wall plug instead of just connecting to a USB hub or computer.

That's what I'm talking about...I have one of those wall plugs with USB outlets built in. One is 500mA the other is 2.1A. The apple charger is 2.4A (12W)

yeah, it's Mac, OS X 10.6 currently. been on Mac for over 4 years now and i can't imagine going back to Windows. i always had problems with Windows, e.g. finding technical specs on that system was always a hassle. on Mac a lot of the things are self-explanatory. don't know how, but my brain is more compatible with a Mac than a Windows.

in one way it's a shame because for some time i wanted an Alienware for myself and now it's never gonna happen. still, a small price to pay. not going back to Windows even for Alienware, and Mac is at least an equal to that, if not better.

    I'm on Ubuntu 14.04
I despise windows but whatever, it works for some people:b
I just think that unix based OSes tend to be superior..
I couldn't imagine going back to windows..It'll always be linux or osx for me..although, i'm not much of a fan of the newer osx releases..

XP on my main PC. Win 7 on my laptops because they don't support XP. Deep freeze is a must have for all my windows machines.

I don't know what the hell is going on with youtube but videos were playing like shit on all my laptops. XP, not too bad. Youtube actually is playing smoother on my androids right now. Fuck knows what will be working best tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm switching over from Mint 16 to Ubuntu 14.04 KDE today. Mint 16 has just never run quite as well as 15 did and I don't really want to go to the stable release until 17 comes out.

*nix based systems are impartially better in most respects. You don't see any smart phones *other than windows* using anything like windows as a code base. IOS uses openbsd and android uses linux. Windows has had to adapt to unix permissions.
