Christ etkearne, well at least it was only one of your fingers. I nearly cut my ring finger off on my right hand on a slicer maching when I worked in a deli, almost 10 years ago. I'll never forget how much that hurt! No opiates then, either. Hopefully it wasn't your writing hand?

Luckily it was on my left hand and I am right handed. However, I play the bass and I will have to cancel band practice this week (I play electric bass in a jazz band) because there is no way I could play bass with the injury.

When I woke up this morning, when the Suboxone had worn off a good amount, it was still in a lot of pain, so I took 1000mg of Aspirin, then waited for a few hours before I took my daily Subs dose. I never like to take Subs first thing in the morning. But I am pain-free again now. Thank goodness for opioids haha.

I used to play bass as well. I'm a self taught classical guitar player as my primary offering, but for the past 3 years have been getting heavily into old modular analog synthesizers. Too bad that is a hobby nearly as expensive as a full blown opiate addiction!

That is interesting. I love music that utilizes analog synthesizers. I started my fascination in such things as 1970s progressive rock like (pre-pop Phil Collins) Genesis. Then I got into other music using such instruments including modern bands like Stereolab that use that equipment a good amount.

The bass is my passion though. I can play keyboards and 6-string guitar and I am sure if I dedicated time to it, I would be good at it, but there is something about the bass that attracts me. Perhaps it is the mathematical nature of the instrument (I am a graduate student in Mathematics): The bass has to constantly create a monophonic sequence of notes that blends (ideally perfectly...) the rhythm from the drums as well as the harmonies expressed by the guitar and/or keyboards. I love the challenge of adding the two elements together to create something interesting.

Sorry to ramble. I have treated myself to extra Vyvanse today, so I am up to 75mg. I have extra capsules left this month from exercising self control haha. I will take another 25mg before too long...

I didn't hit up the opioids too much today other than for my regular Suboxone dose.

We are very much alike then! It's impossible to make out, but on my signature photo below you can just about see the tattoo on my upper left arm, it is over a girl sitting over the word "YES", the band obviously. As far as bass playing goes in rock music, Chris Squire of Yes and Mike Rutherford of Genesis are my two favorites. The way Rutherford utilizes the pedal on The Lamb and even earlier, especially when used to accompany the Mellotron, are about as close to ecstatical mystical experience you can get with typical rock band instruments. I too grew up with prog rock (I've seen Yes at least 8 times with my mom, and I've seen The Musical Box the Genesis cover band twice) and during teenage experimentation with psychedelic drugs starting at 14 developed a strong taste for experimental noise rock and electronic. Currently I listen to a lot of La Monte Young, Brian Eno, Klaus Schulze, Onehotrix Point Never, Dan Deacon, etc.

One question for you, have you ever listened to Lightning Bolt? Because if you haven't, now that is a bass player to admire. It's a duo of a drummer and bass player, doing trance and electronic style repetition, with actual instruments, and it's quite possibly the most "intense" music in the world. I've hung out with the drummer in the past, they are probably the most chill contemporary musicians around.

Who are your main inspirations as far as jazz goes? Are you into any free jazz / world stuff like Don Cherry, Dollar Brand, that kind of thing?

Sorry if this is way too off topic, I'm just very curious, you can always PM me if you'd like to talk, I'm very interested to see who your influences are.

How interesting that you admire Mike Rutherford as well. He is my favorite bass player. He might not be the 'fastest' (although he can play quite fast...) or 'showiest' but in terms of actual composition, he is my favorite. His basslines are the epitome of the melding of rhythm and harmony I described. Listen to the tune "The Lady Lies" (off of their lesser known album "And Then There Were Three"). I think that bassline is pure genius. While someone like Victor Wooten (a jazz fusion bassist considered by many bassists as 'the best') can do technical feats that Rutherford probably cannot do, it doesn't matter.

When I listen to music, the technical skills are only as important as the actual compositional abilities. And that is why I like Rutherford so much. He has both attributes.

I have not heard of the band you mentioned, but I will certainly look into it, as another person who likes early Prog Rock is likely to have the same opinion on what type of music is 'good'. Thanks for the suggestion.

As for my jazz, we play in the style of the late 1960s post-bop jazz. We are not fusion at all, nor world music. We play traditional, so called "Bop" jazz, but we focus on the more modern end of that spectrum. Some 'free jazz' was built from Post-Bop jazz so I can't DENY that I play in the free jazz arena, although primarily we play in the common Post-Bop realm. It is a drummer, me on electric bass, and a guitarist. The guitarist plays almost exclusively 'rhythm guitar', laying down the harmony, and I work hard at giving a logical middle-ground between him and the (very skilled) drummer. I choose not to use an upright bass because the amount of physical energy you have to use to play the same basslines I play on electric ON upright would exhaust even a good upright player in a quick amount of time. So I stick with the unconventional use of an electric bass in "traditional" jazz.

You like opioids I assume- how about listening to Yes or early Genesis while opiated. That is probably one of the only reasons I am alive right now haha. It is probably the best 'stress relief' I know of.

Steve Howe and Chris Squire era Yes (or LSD for that matter!) is also part of my reason for living. It is a spiritual experience, it is ecstatic mystic, pure soul bliss. I've since been focused more on bass driven drone or ambient styles but I'll still put on Tales From Topographic Oceans every now and then.

I, like you, am prescribed Suboxone, I've been on it since April of this year. I'm going to send you a private message in the morning when I get back to work, because I am very happy to meet someone here with such similar interests, but I'm just finishing up here at work for the day. Have a great Friday night :)

    Nice!!

Just curious, unless you have a rx, how much do Roxis sell for around your area. Im in GA (just relocated from PA) and the prices here compared to NJ/NY/PA are a bit steeper... I know there is a thread somewhere talking all about this, im too high to find it atm, nut yajus curious.

In NJ, i used to get "blues" or Roxi's for 20 for a single. 6 for 100. And so on. That was not really when my friends and i got deals. When we got deals and would buy 10, 20, 30, or even a whole load more. We would end up getting them for about 15 or 14 a pop. Cheapest in bulk i think was like 12.50 or something, but that was my best friends, dude, and he helped us out.

Anyway have a great hgih and a great weekend brotha/sista, OP again too dopey and cant remember your gender...Male right? sorry dude not trying to be rude.

    rambling will end.

I payed $30 for a 30. it's quite sad. Prices here around southeast ohio range from $20-35. I've bought them as cheap as $20 all the way to $30. I would never pay 35$ or 40$... but people here do when they're short. I can pick me up a balloon of dope though for $25... so no point in the roxy if that's around.

btw, I wouldn't know about buying in bulk, I never do. The guy I get them from gets about 500 at a time so I'm sure hes paying hella cheap prices. lol

yeah i feel you. 25 is the most i have and ever will pay, and even then i feel like i have paid too much, but different areas, different prices......

Yeah mang, ive heard of people paying those HIGH prices for 30s too. Sucks.

Just curious, in your area, how much is actually in a balloon? In NJ i used to get 0.1gs (meant to be around that) for $10 in stamp bags, vast majority of the time the dope was really really good. Occasionally crap. Occasionally only ok. Sometimes we would get FIRE though... :afro:

Havent fucked with the boy for about 3 weeks. Previous to that about 3 months. Before that i was using everyday, i was (and still am) addicted to dope, now only mentally, and its leaving me faster and faster each day. Sure i miss it, but that lifestyle is terrible after only a short period of time and well, enough about that already!

oooooh and im on for the second night in a row, 20mgs IV and 10mgs snorted of Roxis. Ate a couple mg's of clonazepam along with having about 3 beers when i was over at my neighbors a little while ago.\

Keepin my opiate use in check these days after the silliness i put myself through in the past.

    Less lovely: zolpidem+zopiclone+xanax+alcohol

YOu can bet your ass i still could sleep after 400 mg snorted caffeine hahah

I don't see the Suboxone doctor until next Monday, so I only have 5 x 8mg strips left, so I guess I have to be kind of careful not to take any extra or anything! But since I am down to like 3mg per day anyways, I should be good if I don't have any "indulgent" sessions.

I've only rode the H train a few times, when we bought balloons I was always told it was 1/4th of a gram and I paid $25. If I could get H everyday I would be doing it every single day but it is so hard for me to find it. A lot of my friends wont give me good hookups because they're afraid of addiction. Only thing I can usually get is roxys, shitty blow, kronic and well just about any pill I suppose. It's sad though. H is so much cheaper and so much better, I wish I could find it frequently.
