Why have Nazism and Fascism raised their ugly heads again among the Trumpian right? And from such unlikely proponents? Has anybody told Ye and Nick that they can't pass the racial purity test? Ye is crazy, but does he really think he's Aryan or that his hero Adolf would hesitate to send him to a death camp for being an Untermensch. It wasn't just Jews, you know, that Hitler and his boys were after. And Fuentes? What kind of Nordic name is that? These two are definitely confused. But why would Hitler be an attraction for them? Such a pathetic loser.

I suspect shock value has something to do with it. ‘Nazi chic’ is defined by Wikipedia as “the approving use of Nazi-era style, imagery, and paraphernalia in clothing and popular culture, especially when used for taboo-breaking or shock value rather than out of genuine sympathies with Nazism”. Nazis had such cool uniforms, and such swagger--such badasses pushing people around. I think much of the appeal of Trump and Desantis has similar roots. Biden and the Dems are so bland; progressives and the SJWs are such snowflakes and goodie two shoes. Some folks even find Nazis sexy, in a fetishist sort of way. Nazi Fetishism But there's more to it than that.

I hope we can shed some light on that question in this thread. I'd like to take a broad look at the psych-o and socio-dyncmics of far right Fascist movements, including modern paramilitary movements like the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys. I define Fascism broadly to include all movements that are similar to Hitler's National Socialists and Mussolini's Fasci di Combattimento. I'd say the distinguishing features are: (1) cult of personality: personalism or follow the leader; (2) authoritarianism (strict obedience to authority at the expense of democracy and personal freedom); (3) nationalism (identification with the nation and its interests to the exclusion of others); and (4) nativism (the promotion of the interests of an ethnic "in group" against those of "foreign"outsiders. Nazism differs from other forms of Fascism by it emphasis on race, especially Anti-Semitism.

For starters, I'd say that Fascism at the personal level results from a need to compensate for a deep sense of personal inadequacy and at the collective level is about power at the expense of other values. I welcome your thoughts.
