What makes Hipforums different/better/worse than other forums/social media?

Because of the pink/purple layout some friends have asked me before "are you looking at porn? =O"

 

HF is so different than it used to be, it's alarming to me, like every time I come on here. I remember when I came back after a few years and yeah...it's hard to "prove yourself" when you first start. You have to decide if this place is worth your time...for me I have to decide that everytime I come here, but there is some sense of permanency that makes it appealing to come back. It's like, you know this place will be here, as harsh as it may be, there's almost a formula, to get a response and sometimes a quick response is priceless as hell.

I've gotten that as well. I also get very self-conscious if I am at work browsing the forums and someone walks behind me. As soon as anyone gets close, I click off the page and pretend I am looking at something else. I don't understand why anyone who choose such tacky colors for an internet forum.

 

Maybe what we have in common is that we were the kinds of kids in school who had a hard time sticking with one clique or group. I know I was. I had to hide my groups of friends from my other groups of friends...here it's not a big deal.

 

What colors would you choose, Rat?

 

Anything but these fruity colors, but preferably a neutral color. I would be fine with predominately white or black, or more earthy colors like dark green and tan. But that would take away from the gimmicky aspect of these being supposedly "hippy" forums... I guess.

 

I wouldn't come here if it was black and white. That would hurt my eye balls. The purple is easy on my eyes. I'd also protest the green & tan.

 

I wonder if the colors are so bright, because Skip is trying to invoke a sense of the forbidden in us. It makes others take notice, we become possessive of this little internet space here and we come here more often, creating a loyalty that prevents us from leaving...

 

Yeah, that's it.

 

Berries are this color....and are supposed to be attractive to most people....picking fruit...>LOL

 

Berries are natural. These colors are more akin to the artificial colors found in grape soda or some nasty energy drink.

 

Hippies are pretty fond of bright, happy colors.

Rat, I'm about to do you a solid. In firefox, edit, preferences, click content, click colors, and desect the box which say 'let sites set their own color preferences. Looks like this.



Of course I prefer the old fashioned way, via Lynx.
