What makes Hipforums different/better/worse than other forums/social media?

Hip Forums is pretty cool but sometimes I feel as though the regulars crowd out the newbies - like it's pretty hard to find your own voice and space here unless you stick around for a few months. That was my experience. It's rare for someone to pipe up in the "introduce yourself" forum and then become a regular poster.

Newbies just gotta fight.....and anything worthwhile is worth fighting for.....and I will keep fighting.....How long before someone is no longer classified as a newbie, anyway?
I don't feel so new here anymore.

I am trying ti figure out where you can post that isn't a "debate" forum. Those are just a masturbatory joke and most of the biggest a-holes try to dominate them.

    lol.

One of the main reasons I can't post here all the time anymore.

But I don't like to argue anymore. I used to.

In a way you are a newbie (time wise) but because you know everyone here (well, mostly) and post all the time, you're really not a newbie anymore.

There is no certain amount of time.

...are we gonna create a psa (public service announcement) for hipforums? Haha, everyone can record their little part with a webcam and then we can put them all together. I can imagine it now, Billy with a one second spot just saying, "DIVERSITY!"... lol and porkstock just saying "purple" undeniably

I took some film classes and did learn some video editing, but I don't like to do it. I'm actually gonna be taking some more film classes soon, not editing though.

since hip forums is the closest i come to anything resembling 'social media', i have no basis for comparison. there ARE other places on the net i frequent, and i suppose, in a sense, they're all a sort of social outlet. but i don't go to any of them, even here, looking for this idea of social media.

i go to places where there are interesting ideas, and to a lesser degree, to, like here, have sometimes interesting conversations, about them.

i'm not on any of the social media sites. i'm on places primarily to share my visions of what could be. my currently most frequented site is fur affinity, which is a gallery with comment system, where i upload the images i create, and b.s. with other artists, about their worlds and so on.

i also keep in touch with things i'm interested in. illustration technology, other invironmentally harmonious technologies, particularly those of infrastructure, unusual, alternative and environmental construction technologies, pictures of the beautifully unusual and so on.

i'm not really big on human society at all. what i love is the diversity of the real universe, that begins where humans bullshitting themselves ends.

i come here, because of the rightness of the spirit of the 60s and 70s, that, well it goes back as far as humanity, and never completely dies, even when more tyranical perspectives for a time assert themselves.

i like people and love affection, but i'm just a whole lot more interested in little people sized trains, little people sized houses, little furry creatures, but most importantly engineering everything in such a way, as to create a world for all sorts of life to be both secure, and even more importantly, to live in ways each of us individually find gratifying. not just for a few at the expense of everyone and everything else, but for every one and every thing.

I love HF because it's anonymous. I can be really honest here about all aspects of my life, at least up to the point where someone could identify me. I like how there is so much diversity here, young and old, real hippies and wannabees, conservatives and people who want to make the world a better place.

I do not like Facebook and I don't use Google+ or LinkedIn. Twitter -- I don't know -- mostly it seems like a waste of time. I don't like the idea of having to be careful about where people are in my circles in order to guard my privacy. I sure as hell don't want to be known to marketing databases so they can give me targeted advertisements. I hate the surveillance society we all seem to be part of now. I don't think Facebook cares about privacy at all, altho they want you to think that they do. I also think Facebook cheapens the concept of friendship. I prefer to have a small number of good friends I can really trust.

It feels like an underground Facebook to me, the way you can make virtual (and sometimes real friends too) and read "status updates" on some of these threads. and of course the chat feature. profiles of course

Well facebook spends millions of dollars on apps and features, and hipforums is a purple site paid in donations from hippies, who are by and large a pretty broke group.

I've also never had anyone look up my hipforums profile at a job interview, and my mom doesn't post here, so somehow hipforums is like a million times cooler.

I'd rather be a conspiracy nutbag than someone who unquestioningly believes what the corporate media tells them. Indeed some conspiracy folks are a bit nutty and sometimes get carried away, but at least they question consensus reality, which is more than can be said for the general public who cares about nothing more than sports and celebrity.
