A friend of mine gave me this book for my birthday a few years ago called "Straight from the Fridge Dad: A Dictionary of Hipster Slang" It defines hip as being "in the know, worldly wise, clever, enlightened, sophisticated"
HIP is a state of mind, anything can be hip at different times. Hippie came from "hipster" in the early 60s after the "beatnik" phase. HIP is only what you think it is at a certain period in time, when it may later be thought of as foolish, like hippie.
these posts are rediculous. its always the same with the labeling and those condeming the practice of labeling....i dont know why people are so concerned with what to call themselfs, and eachother. or why they are concerned that others are actively calling themselfs or others names like hippy.
they may have called themselves hippies or people may have called them hippies but just calling yourself a hippie doesn't make you a hippie your actions make you what you are. and killing people makes you not a hippie JOn
well, i'll start by saing HI!!!! i am new here too. anyway, i read somwhere on this site something that inspired me: "P.L.U.R.-peace -love -understanding -respect
Love, love, love, love, peace, serenity, happiness, being yourself, without worrying about the others, or about what someone may say abbout you.
