I've been using honey as a cleanser, ACV to tone, and coconut oil to moisturizer. I've been doing this twice a day, and all was fine until a few days ago, when I had a bit of a breakout. I've since stopped using the coconut oil, and I didn't put any foundation on today because I was worried that would make it worse. I'm not sure where to go from here, though? I don't want to go back to using store bought cleansers, as I much prefer the natural route. My husband hasn't had any issues and he's been following the same skin care routine as me. I'm also worried the ACV may be too harsh on my skin in the long run? I am definitely starting to think about anti aging benefits in my skin care system, hence why I started using honey in the first place. Advice would be helpful here........
Ash, i bought some rose water the other day and have been using this as a toner in the morning and acv at night. It is really gentle and smells amazing. ( i spray it all over my body for scent.) Before I started using ACV i used diluted lime juice which was also pretty gentle. There are other oils out there besides coconut oil that arent as heavy, I came across some suggestions the other day while researching natural skin care. I'm not sure what they are off the top of my head, sorry, but i would just google natural moisturizer and see what happens.
Thank you! I will look for rose water today at the market and look for another oil that isn't as heavy. I suspect the coconut oil has been, over time, clogging my pores, which is too bad because I really like the way my skin looks in the morning after I have gone to sleep with coconut oil on my face. I've also read that coconut oil is an excellent anti aging product, which is another reason why I like to use it. I notice that the slight wrinkles around my eyes are almost completely diminished after I moisturize with coconut oil.
I was away for a week, and didn't bother to bring my avocado oil with me. When I got home, I cleaned my face and then applied avocado oil. My skin looked so much better instantly. But it's one of those things that I only use a few times a week. It's just not the same effect when I use it every day. But most things work that way for me...so I always have two or three moisturizers and I rotate them. Also, I've beey trying my Asian products. I am not sure how I feel about them. Mizon snail products instantly tighten my face, like a mini facelift lol, however other things that I ordered smell of alcohol way too much, and my skin doesn't tolerate alcohol. So nope. The Japanese hyaluronic lotion suits me so well though. I think that's the only Asian thing I will continue to use. Oh and TonyMoly sheet masks are awesome! Especially red wine...I was sitting with my mom one night and used the mask. When I removed it she commented that my skin immedately looked better, and she is very critical lol. Love sheet masks, so relaxing! I think I might make this a once a week thing. I'll order more, definitely. I'll try other brands too. I'd buy them here, but I haven't seen sheet masks anywhere, so weird. And have any of you tried this?? I am curious... Btw, that Avene SPF50 is amazing. Ash, is honey the only cleanser you use? Somehow it doesn't sound enough to remove makeup... Oh and I am starting to think about anti aging as well.
Now I want this, even though I already have an oil for eye area (wheat germ) xD Also, how do you all like micellar water?
I use wipes to take off my makeup before I cleanse with honey. I think the coconut oil was clogging my pores, and that is what caused the breakout. I could be wrong, though. This morning I used Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, then I used coconut oil, and I finished with ACV. My skin looks a lot better, but I don't know if that is from the regular cleanser, or because I used coconut oil prior to using ACV. I really want to get away from using cleansing products, because they have so many chemicals in them that I just don't want on my skin.
I am obsessed with skincare, I have a bit of a problem. I've been somewhat good recently though, with all the testers, before comitting to buying the real thing xD Now I ordered Paula's Choice testers xD I have a problem.
It isn't exactly the worst problem to have..... I just want to use natural things on my face....I want to stay away from products. I need your help!
A lot of people do recommend using oil cleansers before toners...Now I know coconut oil is not a cleanser per se, but whatever works for you! You could make your own cleansing oil maybe? And then remove the remaining oil with a toner/lotion. And then moisturize... Some people even make their own vitamin C skin serums, and apply that after toning and before moisturizer.
Coconut oil does make an excellent makeup remover....maybe I should try using it before the honey, and then finishing with the ACV....
It isn't at all, actually. It is incredibly soft and surprisingly not sticky. I do wet my face first, though, and mix it with a bit of water.
I have been playing around with diy skin serums I havent made this yet, but I think a good one for anti aging would be Almond oil as the carrier oil rosehip oil Carrot seed oil vitamin e oil vitamin c (not sure if this comes in an oil? But i know it is great for skin) edit: i just saw piaf's comment about vitamin c serum. Perfecto Some kind of essential oil, not sure which would be best. I am currently using a homemade serum with peppermint essential oil and it does tighten up my face but it also makes my eyes water
I'm still using the Honey/Coconut Oil/ACV cleansing routine. I need to find a good recipe for a natural facial exfoliate, though. Maybe something with baking soda?
I have been washing my face with just baking soda and water and my skin is very smooth. I've also been using a sugar scrub (just sugar and olive oil, will prob switch up the oil next time) once a week. Someone mentioned sugar scrubs are too harsh for the face but I haven't had a problem. It leaves my face soft and brightens it up so much. I have been doing the daily baking soda cleanse, then I tone with ACV and moisturize with a DIY serum. Right now I am using a serum made with almond oil, vitamin e, rose hip oil, and a touch of lavender essential oil.
What do you use (if anything) as a makeup remover? I've been using coconut oil as a makeup remover, prior to cleansing with honey, and I find it works alright. I really need to exfoliate, though. I used a sugar scrub about a month ago and didn't have a problem, but I then worried it would be too harsh in the long run so I haven't used it since. If you've been using it regularly and haven't had a problem, then maybe I'll try again......
I've started using a bubbling sugar scrub in the shower a couple of times a week. My skin feels incredibly soft afterwards and it isn't harsh at all!
I also read last night that baking soda and honey make a good exfoliator, that might be a gentler option! I don't wear make up very often but when I do I use coconut oil to remove it
I picked up some glycolic acid pads today, anyone ever used glycolic acid? Ive been looking into it and it seems to be the most promising of the AHAs.
