What is your favorite city to visit? (It can't be the one where you live.) What do you like about it?

    Let's find out.

    ^I liked Paris.

I was pretty blown away by San Francisco... just because of how crazy it was and how people were just living there among all the craziness like it was normal. I would be terrified of living there, though... and plus it's expensive and I don't want to live in the States.

But I think my favorite city has to be Ottawa-- there's nothing really special about it, I just really like it as a city. It's not too big and not too small, not too rich and not too poor, not too busy and not too boring, and even though this is going to sound horrible, it's not so multicultural that I'm just another minority, unlike Toronto.

I guess you could call me racist, but small things like seeing nice orderly lines for the buses where people acknowledge and respect each other can go a really long way to making you feel good about a place... and I've been to enough countries to know that there are certain nationalities who don't give a shit about anyone else and have brought the custom with them to Toronto.

Maybe Ottawa has lost that since I lived there, though.

BOSTON hands down is my favorite city. I love how it's the perfect mixture of old and new. I love the history. It just feels right to me. I feel like I belong there from the minute I stepped foot in that city. I get home sick for a city I've never lived in. I miss it.

I love Chicago too. I go there often enough that I wouldn't want to live there but I've had some amazing times in that city.

I love the Outer Banks, North Carolina. I love how its a beach community but its not packed or overcrowded. It's a great place to go and relax.

San Francisco but I've only been there once, so that's not a very tested answer.

My favorite non-city place was Napa Valley; but a second is Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.

I don't have a favorite. I loved Istanbul (european part) and I also love Groningen, where I live now. I guess if I knew other cities to the same extent I would love them just as much :p Yeah, I'm boring like that (it's not the urge to be PC though, I can assure you )

    I haven't really been anywhere...

So by default I say Portland. I can't imagine liking another place more.

I haven't been every where I want to go, but if I was going to pack my bags and move some where it would be around Nashville. I just love that area and all that is going on there.

I like a lot of different cities, but I have to list New Orleans as my all-time favorite. To make a long story short, I'll just say that it's the only place I've found in the US where you can dance like you do at home, when you think nobody's watching, and nobody there will think you're a fool. That's my kind of a party! And everywhere you go, there is great food and live music. It's a city that doesn't judge. You may find a gourmet restaurant next door to a sex toys shop, and that doesn't seem to bother anybody. To each his own!

There are plenty of reasons not to consider living there all the time, starting with most of the land being below sea level. I know that water runs downhill, and maybe that's all I need to know about owning property there. New Orleans is the city that knows it isn't supposed to be there, which I think makes it wilder and crazier than it would otherwise be. It's a place to live for today, because tomorrow, it might be on the bottom of the ocean.

This thread reminded me of my Mardi Gras thread:

I'll be keeping it up to date through Fat Tuesday, since I started it very late last season.

Portlands a great city. I had a great time in NYC but I can't say I'm in love with it. I do want to go back to Boston, it looks like you could have a good time beside the fact that I couldn't find a good cup of coffee. Seattles cool but I live pretty close to it and it's not very big really for it's size.
But I LOVE San Francisco, we tried to buy a little place there with another couple but it didn't work out.

Sure. I'm there a few times a year.
I also like Bern and Luzern, but Zürich is special because it reminds me of Zagreb.

I like Bern and Luzern a lot too. I can convert to Orthodox Judaism and get a free house in Luzern if I really really really wanted to live there and sacrifice all of my ideals.
