orbs seems an odd thing to call what appear to be FLAT discs of light. i think the name must have been given them by someone with a flare for the melodramatic mumbojumbo.

i have no idea what the details of the actual cause are, and weather or not the cause cannot be somehow affected by something 'otherworldly' but at any rate the effect itself, whatever it is, well if you don't see it with your own eyes but then do in a photo, then it is somehow an artifact of the photographic proccess.

if people are seeing and seeing these things more often now, i'm wondering if maybe it might be an effect of digital photography, if that's where the're showing up.

i'd be curious to know if that is where and only where they do. if it is, that would pretty much clinch it.

likewise if it were only in focused light on emulsion photography, this too would indicate some sort of 'artifacting' from/in that proccess.

Tamee - I have some interesting information for you about some circles identical to yours that appeared through my surveillance camera system as well as my digital camera. Here's what happened: I purchased and set up a digital surveillance camera with night vision to keep an eye on my car at night because it had been getting vandalised, and we wanted to catch the perpetrator in action. The camera was activated by motion that would occur when someone would enter the camera's field of vision within a pre-set proximity around the car. Each morning, I would view the "motion list", which would contain the previous evening's recording of activity. During playback, I could slow down the action to a frame-by-frame slowness of speed to really scrutinize whatever I chose to. As I viewed the motion list one morning, I noticed a circle of light identical to yours appear on the screen - my car is parked with the nose to a wall, and this circle of light suddenly appeared and flew up onto the wall above my car and then drifted off to the left and then disappeared. From the angle at which it hit the wall above my car, it appeared to be coming from a position down the parking lot to the right. It appeared one other night as well. Then, one day a few weeks later, I purchased a hand-held digital camera. I went outside one morning to experiment taking pictures with it, and I noticed a man halfway down the parking lot with his back to me - I wanted to experiment with the "telefoto" part of my new camera, so I held it up to my eye and zoomed in on the man. I noticed when I zoomed in close on him that he held something in his hands that appeared to be a camera as well, and he was pointing it on the wall in front of him. Suddenly, there appeared the circle of light on the wall, seemingly being put there by the camera he had pointed at the wall ..... and it was the same circle of light that had showed up on the surveillance camera recording! I removed my camera from my eye and looked at the man and the wall in front of him with my naked eye, not thru my camera - and the circle of light was not visible! I looked thru my camera again, and the circle of light was still there! But when I'd look with my eyes only and not thru the camera, it was gone again. I determined that this circle of light was only visible thru the camera and it had some sort of relation to the infra-red capabilities that both cameras had. It turned out that this man was the jerk who'd been messing with my car, and he had no idea at the time that his own camera gave him up. I'm not saying that this is the explanation for your circles, I'm just giving you some input to consider because your circles of light are absolutely identical to the ones as seen through both my cameras that are equipped with infra-red lenses for low-light filming. It is written, I think, that these people that do "ghost investigations" utilize infra-red lenses to enable them to film apparitions that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I mention this not to suggest that your circles of light are ghosts, but to say that camera lenses do see things that our eyes do not. I've been into photography since the 1960's, and I do know this to be a true fact. Digital cameras are more capable to do so than the single lens reflex cameras that use film, although they will also see things our eyes can't, but not as good as the digitals. Is it possible that you have a neighbor that could have been experimenting with their camera, and subsequently, that's how the circles of light appeared in your pictures? Just a thought, because that's how they appeared on mine.

    Sincere Regards, Michaela

a neighbor that came into my basement? I don't think so...

you mean from outside? no. I live on an acre and a half of land, right in the middle of it. no one goes out on the yard outside my window besides my family, and the only other people i live with are my grandparents who stay inside most of the time. I'm pretty sure it wasn't them.

I have this theory that orbs caught in pictures are light from any source bouncing off of our own personal spiritual waves passing through the air, and that they have nothing to do with paranormal activity. I think when the mixture of electrical waves that both naturally occur in our enviroment and those created by AC electricity, our own spiritual waves, and light particles combine at a certain time, stimulated by the flash or chemical/electrical release of the camera, it creates these orbs that show up. So, it is not an effect of paranormal activity, but an aftereffect of our own world.

(a neighbor that came into my basement? I don't think so...)

Tamee - actually, when I suggested that you consider influence from outside, I was not of the understanding that all of these photographs were taken in your basement....I thought of this because of how identical circles appeared through my camera from observing the infra-red influence of another camera... and, I guess I thought of the outside because in your very first photograph (the one that has the wood-burning stove in the center), I could clearly see a window with daylight outside in the upper left-hand corner of the picture ... because of the inclusion of the window, I didn't interpret that room as being a basement with no outside exposure. May I respectfully suggest that it would really behoove you to encourage yourself to keep an open mind to all input; whether it be of a logical or a paranormal nature; since you are in pursuit of an explanation.

    Sincerely, Michaela
