One word: M-O-N-E-Y!! Lot's of cops, prosecution and defense attorneys are making TRILLIONS with drugs like pot being illegal. If pot and other drugs are legalized, these people would have to arrest, prosecute and defend real criminals. It's not about health. If it were so, drugs would be legal and regulated. At least with alcohol being legal, you know that (most likely) that it will not have any methanol, only ethanol. Ditto with tobacco. Only nicotine and tar. Criminalizing alcohol was already tried. Major failure. More people ended up drinking because they found it fun to break the law. Same would be true with tobacco if it were totally banned. More people would light up to defy the ban. It's called the forbidden fruit attraction. Legalizing pot would actually reduce usage in the long term because the thrill of breaking the law would be removed. Look at the Netherlands. Lower percentage of people smoking pot than in the USA, probably because people are not challenging the authorities and the law by doing so, therefore it's not as fun.
the government has no right to tell you what you can or can not put in your body. how i assume majority of you drink coca-cola. how would you like it if the government made that illegal and took true facts about it and blew them way out of proporsion? coke is extremely acidic. u put a nail in it, 2 days later the nail is gone. they use coke to get blood stains off the road after car accidents. when a truck carrying coke is crossing state borders it has to have a sign saying that there are hazardous chemicals in the truck. that shit will burn a hole in your stomach if you drink too much. you have too drink like only coke and at least like 12 cans a day, but its possible. the government would take these true facts, and exagerate. tell you that 2 cans a day will burn a hole in you in 2 years. or something like that. that is what they did with weed. like all things you smoke it causes lung irritation and has a possibility of cancer. then they exagerate.this started because of racism. the first president of the bureau of narcotics, "The Primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races." Harry J. Anslinger Commissioner of the US Bureau of Narcotics 1930-1962 Marijuana Prohibition was created in 1937, not to protect society from the evils of the drug Marijuana, as the Federal government claimed, but as an act of deliberate economic and industrial sabotage against the re-emerging Industrial Hemp Industry. this was started also by the alcohal compony and tobacco company who felt threatened. even the DARE kind of shit groups admit that LSD has NO harmful effects on the body or brain. the only reason it was made illegal was because it opened peoples eyes. once you took acid its impossible to go back to a 9-5 living and be a "productive" member of society. thats why so many old hippys became farmers or something of that sort. the only ill effects marijuana and all Psychedelic drugs (LSD, shrooms, mescaline, salvia, etc.) has on the mind is that if a person is depressed psychedelics will make them more depressed. but its common knowledge with all trippers that if your not relaxed and happy, then dont trip, so that isnt a problem. also if a person will get schitzofrenia (sp?) later in life, psychedelics or weed will make it come faster. but only if you will eventually get it anyway. and dont give me that bull shit about "the govt wants to help you". they dont give a shit. they just want your money. they'd dose lil old ladies with LSD without their consent to find out its effects, inject blacks with syphilisto see what would happen, censor the media and schools, but they would never lie about Ganja? The profits made on the Ganjawar are just coincidence? It just happens to be competition to the crude, Pharmaceuticals, trees, cotton, booze, clothing, taxtiles, meat, grain and dairy herb and pesticide industries and their business ethics prevents them from using this as a reason for perpetuating Ganja prohibition. And waving that red white and blue banner from the car antenae, thats made in China, by kids in sweatshops, from plastic made with Iraqi crude oil is patriotic! Peace, Love and Liberty or the Fools following D.E.A.th (and anyone who is smart probably does research a drug before using it. every new drug I try, i always consult www.erowid.com , a druggies best friend.)
"When a society conceeds that they can longer control the distribution of dangerous substances, and passes laws to make them readily available, they open the door to the road to substance abuse." I can't remember who made this quote, but I believe that drugs that effect the pyschological well being of humans should be regulated to a certain point. The wisdom of the quote above can be seen in the fact that the government has given up on people that are addicted to cigarettes and alcohol. Sorry, I am opposed to the idea "everybody should smoke a joint and just be happy". Or would you approve that smoking a joint is good for infants or small school children? Incidentally, before you all label me a narc, I am not opposed to using cannabis (I'm a plant freak). But should the use of this plant be absolutely un-regulated I fear too many people would abuse it, just like too many people abuse alcohol and tobacco.
canada, for the past 60 years has always supported every bit of propaganda the US govt made up against marijuana. then a few years ago, canada admitted that it was all bull shit and they had been lying. now the canadian people will be voting on marijuana legalization soon. go to google and type in canada marijuana for more information. amsterdam has the lowest crime rate of any city compared to the US. any surprise?
i just think that like alcohal and ciggarettes, there should be certain restrictions to marijuana use. like dont smoke and drive. dont smoke in buildings, stuff like that. also maybe a smoking age of 16 or 18.
Hello Just gonna throw my 2 cents in here. I personally think all drugs should be legal. Including what some ppl metioned as the 'hard' ones. I think if they should all the money into better regulatting DWI's and DUI's. if you want to kill our self go right ahead, imho stupid ppl shouldn't breed. However once you get behind the wheel then it is a diffrent story. I learned along time ago that a drug is a drug is a drug. I have seen some dumb ppl on grass and have meet some cool cats on H.. It an't the drug it the ppl that use them. Again this is just my humble opnion but we are all addicted to something. hell there are ton's of 12 step progrmas out there. However i beleive there is no way in hell there will be any real change in the drug codes in the US for a long time to come. rev
Heroin doesn't just affect the user. It affects the community. Heroin addicts generally run out of money and then have resort to mugging and burglarising homes to bail them out. Not only that there are the health risks. Would you want your four year old child to pick up a dirty needle that some scummy junkie had just discarded. Don't pretend that the junkie will dispose of it carefully because they don't care about themselves never mind anybody else. No drugs should not be legalised.... We are all talking about legalising cannabis but in the uK we have just passed a no smoking ban. Being that cannabis (more often than not) is smoked it becomes illegal on two counts. (unless you bake it). Weed is banned because of the psychological risks. If you don't know what they are meet my best friend. He is a walking example of why never to take drugs and should be paraded around schools to show the effects. He makes Ozzy seem like a casual user. He is addicted to weed. He used to do other drugs but doesn't anymore. He is unbalanced to say the least and virtually unemployable.
well drugs are illegal only because the contreys dont make enough money of it. no country does ever care for its inhabitians, its all about money! look, cigarettes and alcohol lead to addictions and are not good either, but the goverment wont do anything about it, because they take their taxes and for not making it obvious, they just say 'hey folks, its not good for your health'. oh and by the way, did you notice, that the whole humanity didnt develop a lot since the 16th century(iexept of having nicer wigs, nicer pefume and having a nice clean toliet)? the country is still taking money away from us in the form of taxes, and not only 10% as in the 16th century, no, its 20% and if you dont pay enough taxes during the year, they make u a bill for the 'missing' money(well at least in my county(in europe) we do it like that). YES, we need a revolution, but not just a small one, no, we need to change the whole nation... i dont know how other think about that, but im sick of working my ass off, only to pay the goverment the money that they need to clean theyr dirty asses in golden sinks!
weed isnt physically addicting. also cops need to spend more time concentrating on important things like stopping another columbine from happening. not stop a stoner from having a bit of fun columbine was bull shit. while the 2 killers were in the library executing 12 kids, and injuring many more, a door to the library from outside was open. all the cops that surrounded the school who were armed and had bullet proof vests on were too much of pussys to go in and decided to just listen to all the kids getting murdered. they waited untill 3 hours after the kilers killed themselves to go in.then they go aroundtalking about how they saved so many kids. fucking pigs. the kids saved themselves. cops need to be trained better so they wont pussy out in that situation. not to deal with spotting a kid on dope.
To me "DRUGS" are illegal because of two reasons 1 One the drug trade is worth trillions of dollars and 2 Pure Psychedelics would destroy the whole system. Has anyone taken pure Sandoz LSD-25?
Maybe you should change your definition of "drug" because soo many drugs are completely legal. Caffeine is a drug, alcohol is a drug, tobacco. It's all about money. How can tobacco be legal, but not weed? And I agree with Mr. Morrison, weed is not addicting physically at all. Psychological addiction can happen with anything. The most conservative person I know is addicted to porn. People become addicted to food. To AIM for God's sake. Risk of pychological addiction is not worth our freedom to do what we want with our bodies!
i think if anything should be made illigal because of addiction, it should be myspace. people are on there 24/7
Marijuana should be legal to grow for your own use, but not to sell. (if it was legal to grow, people could start giving it away!) Lsd should be legal to use with instruction, and for treating alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental disorders. They should make people have drinkers lisences just like drivers lisences which could be revoked if you cause too much trouble with your drinking. No one should sell any psycedelic without including a card with some history and spiritual advice printed on it. Everything else, well, I dont see alot of folks as having enough will power to keep their drug use under control. I cant think of anything more horrid than living in a place where meth is legal and easy to get! What really needs to happen is for the government to stop lying about certain drugs, and only keep control of the ones that are truely harmful. They know which ones they are. Thats easy to figure out. They would be the drugs that keep putting people in the hospital...
except that that is still the government controlling what people do with their own bodies. What gives the gov. authority over my body??
Sticky subject. But like I said, the majority of drug takers DONT control themselves. When you start hurting others with your drug use, its time to draw a line somewhere. PERSONALLY, I dont need to have laws telling me what to do, and yes, we could live without the governments nose up our asses, for sure. But then SOMEONEs got to deal with all the fools who cant control themselves, and cause trouble. I have a really good cure for that. Weve personally escorted trouble making crankers out of our neighborhood at gunpoint after smashing all their equipment (they were cooking a batch). Theives are delt with the same way around here. That means we end up policing the neighborhood instead of the police. Its a far better way, but people have to be willing to do this, because you know as well as I do that some people on some drugs cannot be allowed to continue on with their CRAP if its gonna have a bad effect on you and your family. Peace, love and brotherhood aside, there are some folks who just dont get it and doing all sorts of strange and unsafe drugs is just their way of saying fuck you to the rest of the world. And there are alot of nut cases around who get dangerous when theyre high on pcp or meth or alcohol... Yea, the government can kiss my ass, and the police can go straight to hell, but they better just step aside then, because people who cant control themselves gotta be controled by somebody. And I suppose we could say that any one who is fool enough to overdose deserves to die........
Drugs should be legal for several reasons most of which have been very well stated above. The trillions of dollars that are spent on drug enforcement and imprisonment are a waste of money that could be spent on treatment if people needed it. There are laws enough to control bad behavior, if you get cranked up and kill someone with a car or a gun you can be punished for what you did. Who the hell cares why you did it. Drugs are available in legal form to people who have enough money. Painkillers that are half a molecule away from heroin are prescribed every day. The fastest growing psych diagnosis today is adult ADD guess what you get for that - speed. The war on drugs started as a race issue with the fear of black males high on reefer running amuck. Just like there were laws in the old south making it illegal to sell alcohol to slaves. However, the bureaucracy of the antidrug system is so entrenched as to be almost unchangeable. Let us say that the governor of your state puts you in charge of fighting hunger in the state. Do you really thing that one day you are going to walk into his office and say, "Well boss, I can not find one single hungry person in the state, must be time for you to send me home. No, you are going to be back every year with "facts and figures" about what a growing problem hunger is and how you need more people and money for your department. That is just the way that any government works. I would love to see all drugs legalized, regulated like any other pharmaceutical and sold with an informative label. The product could be taxed and the money could be used for real drug education and treatment. In the state that I live in there are less than 100 free beds for alcohol and drug treatment. Crime would also be cut down. Many crimes are directly related to the artificial high price of drugs. If they were legal, they would be cheap. Did you ever here of anyone robbing a bank to buy wine. In addition, the gang problem would be lessened. I lived in Oakland in a housing project when I was a kid. We had what were called bopping gangs then. We had baseball bats, bike chains, glass ropes, knifes and an occasional Zip gun. (Homemade .22 pistol) How come we did not have Thomson machine guns? Because we did not have any money. If we would have had the kind of cash that todays street gangs get from selling drugs we would have had the best weapons money could buy and there would have been plenty of crooks to sell them to us. Look at Boney and Clyde people back then had no problem getting there hands on automatic weapons if they had the cash. Drugs have provided the widely available cash that has led to well armed street gangs. Just as the need for money to pay these gangs for drugs has caused a huge increase in crimes against people and property. The legalization of drugs would solve a lot of problems. We need to do something before we run out of prison space. This country has a higher percent of its population locked up than any other country in the world and most of them are there for drug crimes. Drugs cause problems sure. Nevertheless, you are never going to stop people from using them. During the opium wars in China the leaders’ punished opium smoking by death. Now I am not talking about going to court. I am talking about the cop on the beat sticking a sword in you. You think that stopped opium smoking? Nope. You think that we are going to come up with any worse deterrent than sudden death? Nope again. Make them legal then deal with the problems that that causes. I bet we spend a hell of lot less money and lose a lot fewer lives. How many people are killed in drug related shootings every year? If you look at all the facts, legalizing all drugs has some problems but it is still the best choice and we will still have all the laws on the books to deal with the actions that people might take while they are stoned.
lsd does harm. im not totally sure how. i read a book on it... but i cant remember it because everytime i read the book i was stoned. see, thats the effects of maryjane. haha but i support all drugs.
