just call it whatever you want to call it. Is anyone really going to be offended if you dont refer to it as a 'generic secular festival celebration tree'. If you will find that offensive then you unlikely to be the kind of person who would have one anyway.

it looks like times are a changin'

2005: 69% of Americans prefer Merry Christmas over Happy Holidays. 29% for Happy Holidays

61% of Americans believe changing "Merry Christmas" to Happy Holidays is a change for the worse.

2004: Last year, 41% said they prefered Happy Holidays.

well, fuck. christians should be able to say merry christmas, and people of other faiths should be able to say what they want, too. i don't see the problem, it's pretty lame to tell someone they're not allowed to express their feelings and their identity in a non-violent manner. even in the white house. after all the president i still an individual

Exactly. It isn't like since the folks at wal-mart are saying "happy holidays" now everyone has to say it. People who prefer to wish others "merry christmas" are free to say it all they want. Why do they care so much what someone else is saying? It is all really petty if you ask me...

Fuck my previous assumption that this world's going to hell.
    God I hate conservatives!!!!!
The fact that Christianity stole so many other rituals, only adds to my list of reasons why I hate Christianity.
Jesus over the news desk to kick Bill O'Reilly's ass made me laugh.

LET'S START THE FUCKING REVOLUTION NOW!!!!!!! LET'S GET A REVOLUTION UP IN THIS BITCH!!!!!! LET'S TAKE OUR ANGER TO THE STREETS ABOUT CHRISTMAS, CHRISTIANITY, & CONSERVATISM!!!!!!!! OH GOD I'M AS PISSED OFF AS THE SOFA KING, WHICH WOULD MAKE ME SOFA KING PISSED OFF!!!!! (i'll give you a minute to figure that out)

"The fact that Christianity stole so many other rituals, only adds to my list of reasons why I hate Christianity"

there are those who would say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. or there are those who would say that the adopting of various rituals and holy dates was the very practical behavior of people who saw the good in two different faiths. (or just sought to maintain their original, true faith through hiding it in another)

so silly to hate a concept. it'll make your hair fall out, i swear.

Well let me list the reasons why I hate Christianity...

    1. Televangelism - forcing your religion on me, not havin' it.
    2. The Inquisition - Christians did to other religions what the Romans did to them 1000 years earlier. Hypocrites. There are even factions of Christianity that still attack other religions or people that don't believe, or are extreme racists, as seen in the movie 'Saved'.
    3. Celibacy - It was started all because the church wanted the wives' money.
    4. The church's stance against gays and abortion.
    5. Of course the terrible stealing of pagan traditions.
    6. The fact that most of their rules go against basic human nature, really piss me off.
    7. And they always get really angry whenever you pose the question that there may not be a God.

aw, c'mon, that shit's just entertainment. i LOVE watching televangelists. lighten up! everytime they say "hellfire" or "lord" you take a shot and grab someone's titties. or you can shut it off. can't really call that forcing anything on you, since it's only on certain channels. but i highly recommend buying some of the sermons for your next party and do everything he tells you not to do. but me, i'm gonna buy some "joy of painting" episodes, and every time bob says "happy little anything" we all take a shot. it'll be awesome.

That is a very interesting way of looking at it. It is funny to watch televangelists (take a look at Farting Preacher on http://www.ebaumsworld.com). I still think that they're evil. I'll be sure to take a shot next time I hear someone preaching frantically about God and Jesus and The Devil.

But those other things I really take seriously.

i think christianity sucks ass but at the same time i hate political correctness with a passion, and besides theres no such thing as a hannukah tree or a kwanza tree. also the fact that the holiday christmas has next to nothing to do with the birth of jesus and the bringing in a pine tree and decorating it is an ancient germanic tradition is just more reason to celebrate christmas (my ancestory is all nortern european)

The point that many here have been trying to make is that there is really no such thing as a "christmas tree", either.

The only real "christmas" symbols that I can think of off the top of my head would be angels or a nativity scene. Everything else was ripped off from pagan ceremonies and beliefs.

That evergreen with lights and ornaments hanging on it is actually a YULE tree.

19 pages of arguing over the name of a fucking tree. Dress it up and call it whatever you want, but in the end it is still a tree.

'They' have a foot in everything... i say fundemental.. but the 'average' christian is pretty mashed up in the head about these kinda things.. It HAS taken over the world.. i think 4.5 BILLION people have 'faith' .. its not just about a tree.

So the argument is not about a tree, but it's about how much this stupid religion is taking over the human race. It's driving me nuts. And if there really are 2 billion atheists/agnostics on the planet, tell me where to find them, cause I'm sick of being surrouned by religion.

    I have trouble finding 'them'.

1.9 billion have more pressing things to think about.. like eating

aside from that agnostics have the possibility of 'faith' so perpetuate the whole myth anyway...

atheism is never going to 'take over' i am afraid...
