I would hardly say the people of boston adopted this. If there was a vote the term christmas tree would win hands down. You know that. If the people actually voted this, i'd have far less beef.

Ontop of that, i think is very unfair that the Canadian guy donated the tree expecting it to be a christmas tree and had it called a holiday tree. Boston should return his tree or at least compensate the guy.

Christmas is already very secular...removing the word christmas seems like completely disregarding the roots of the tradition.

As for the christmas tree bit, see wikipedia. The modern custom can NOT be shown to descend directly from pagan tradition. The lights, decorations and other things are Christian additions, if you will. Let me guess, removing the word christmas is how secularists add to the tradition?[IMG]

Change things like "Christmas Break" to "Winter Break." The white should be sending out "happy holiday" cards, not "Merry Christmas cards." But when you start messing the particular religion, you are GOING TOO FAR!

How does "Christmas Tree" hurt anyone? Does it leave people out? Yes. Does a menorah? Yes. ANY symbol of an Association appeals to a particular group only

Now, my question to everyone who thinks it should be "Holiday Tree:" Do you believe we should start changing ALL religious symbols to make them more inclusive? I.e. Changing the menorah to something like "holiday candleholder" so it includes non jews? If so, whats the point of different religions?

There is none, Religions were formed to keep the commonfolk in line and not rebel, and to help people understand where they came from. Now that we know that we came from Apes, lets dissolve the religions and just litterally!!! Worship the ground we walk on!!!!

That's the problem Sera; christians think nature is evil, society means "me and other christians", and evolution is a lie.

I've made mention of this in my blog...in which I've also taken dead aim at Fox News' Bill O'Reilly.

i think that we should just call it a christmas tree. i mean, people have the right to call it whatever they want. i think that wherever there is a christmas tree, there should be a chanukah menorah. because are people going to start calling it a holidy menorah? no. so don't force the christians to do it.

and also the candles for kwanza. i'm sorry for my limited knowledge of the holiday of kwanza.

and we should outlaw pig-slaughtering on ramadan. and forbid cow slaughtering on a major hindu holiday.

Oh God I hate Bill O'Reilly!!!!! If there's a hell he should rot in it, but me being an agnostic, I doubt if there is one. I'm seriously going to move to Canada or Europe if this uptight shit doesn't fucking stop!!!!!

Because the term "holiday tree" is fucked up. As far as I know, Christmas is the only holiday that is traditionally celebrated with a tree.

Of course, because of all the pine trees that grow in the deserts of the "holy land", right?

The only Christian "tree" holiday I can think of would be Palm Sunday....

That's really besides the point. Point is, that's how people celebrate christmas. It's a tradition now. Deal with it.

It's a Christmas tree. Not a "holiday tree".

So Christians can hijack and bastardise ..pagan beliefs left right and centre... and we all have 'Deal with it' when they wish take it as there own..

Rolling over and saying it is tradition now.. is how fundemental christians take over the bloody world.. Its quite ironic some are pissed off now.

    :p

Bravo Bush for following other presidents and prime ministers in showing respect for others...

    Agreed!

There are so many holidays during this time of year, "happy holidays" or decorating what they call a "holiday tree" just includes everyone. It is easy, inoffensive, inclusive, and perfect for the diverse culture we have today.

Traditions change. We don't live in the United States of Jesus. There is no law that states a decorated pine tree must be called a christmas tree. Boston calling their tree a holiday tree is a good, simple, spirited way to include all religious folk in the city's holiday celebration.

Definitely a big fuss over nothing. People have been saying "happy holidays" for decades, it isn't anything new. There is no reason to be offended when someone at wal-mart tells you happy holidays, would christian's rather they survey for every customer's religion before wishing them well?

There's a lot of scrooges around this year, it seems...

It's just one more example of uptight conservative Xtians who want to jam their beliefs down everybody else's throats. :(

Whenever a person or business makes an effort to be inclusive of EVERYONE, these fuckwits take it as an attack on THEIR beliefs. They won't be truly happy until everybody who isn't one of them is driven out of the country or at least into the closet never to be heard from.

If they want to live in a theocracy so badly, why not move to Iran?

I think it is just to keep a agenda IN THE AGENDA...

Bush is not doing anything other Presidents have not done before..

What gets provoked over in America..gets picked up over here.. Some have got cross With MR Blair also.. about the same thing.

One year ALL 'beliefs' will have the same relevance and prevelance.. not in my life time though.

do you believe we should rename a menorah so its more inclusive?

Maybe we should just follow the O.C.'s idea and create Christmashak..err ChristmasRamadanakah..err ChristmasRamadanahaKwanzaa..did i get them all? Ah hell, lets just get rid of religion..they only cause problems[IMG]

The problem is its aimed at christianity because its the 'majority religion.' If someone unilaterally renamed the islamic crescent or menorah they'd be accused of being anti islamic or anti semitic. But who cares if its aimed at christianity? 500 billion jazillion years ago, the brother of a christian stared at someone wrong..so they cant complain about anything. [IMG]

as i said, i think its right we use happy holidays etc...but renaming a tree..yeah. a tad too much.

It's hardly "hijacking"; we aren't letting them have ANY leeway when it comes to them expressing their beliefs. It's hardly taking over the fucking world.

With so much already secularized, let them have their CHRISTMAS trees.

    God damn.
