Our daughter read this just as she set of for her night shift. She laughed and said that she may well end up quoting your words of wisdom before the end of her shift and plenty more times in the future. LOL.
Similar to Spiff's: "No one on their death bed ever said, 'I wish I had spent more time at work'." That and, "never get old." though, what I'm supposed to do about that one, I haven't a clue.
You can take the credit for remembering the wise words. As you can imagine, having to break the news to parents that their son our daughter has been injured (or worse) in a traffic accident is the job that every police officer dreads. Fortunately, Christina has not been in that position yet, but it still fills her with fear every time she comes across youngsters driving like idiots or getting so drunk that they walk out into the road. .
I see young folks do a lot of stupid shit here. Tonight, we just saw young folks popping wheelys on 3 wheelers, showing off in traffic, and almost running into the back of cars that were stopped at the traffic light. And on a really dark main road that takes us back home, some shit wad decided that it's a good idea to roller blade down the center of the road. I could barely see him because he had on dark clothes, and no reflective gear at all. Almost hit him if I wasn't paying attention. Bunch a dumb ass clowns here.....
"What other people think of me is none of my business" And in the words of my grandfather: "It's all about choices."
my grandfather taught me to look at bad things in a good way he was almost deaf ....and he would turn his hearing aids off when my grandmother got naggy...which was basically all the time
Probably some iteration of "stay in the present", although I cannot specifically pinpoint anyone telling me this most poignantly.
