After reading the heading and all of the posts I am reminded of 2 quotes. The first is "First: do no harm," Universal Life Church (Hence Reverand) The second: "Here's the drug story I want to hear on the news. Today a young man on Acid realizes that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration - that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imigination of ourselves. Now here's Tom with the weather," Bill Hicks Peace Out, Rev J
Hippy nature was 60's youth in a wallow of drugs, sex and freedom, now it's just a way to sell hackey sacks.
So Rude Noodle, When do you start bootcamp? You claim to be 27 but you use the verbiage, tact, and tactics of a petulant 17 year old. Your reply to the question of why you don't enlist is 'been there done that.' You come across as someone who was on the debate team and doesn't really know how to interact with people in a non combative manor. And has a giant set of brass balls when he is online but if confronted face to face would piss himself. I also find it particularly ironic that as you are spewing pro war, anti-sex, anti-drug bullshit you do so over a quote from Leonard Cohen who wrote openly and honestly about his drinking, drugs (Flowers for Hitler) and promiscuity (Death of a Ladies Man). And also dropped out of the music industry for 10 years to live and work in a Zen Monastary. (In your own words "Look it up"). "What's the matter kid? Did a Hippy drop you on your head?" -Dennis Hopper (Flash Back) Peace Out, Rev J
Also another thought on kind of an absurdist note (hippies I've learned love Absudrity), I believe that Spongebob Squarepants has hippy nature. He is comfortable with himself much to the chagrin of others, he takes time off to chase Butterflys (er Jellyfish), he buys a giant TV just to play in the box ("We don't need TV we have imagination") he loves to laugh and doesn't take himself too seriously. What better way to live life. Peace Out, Rev J
Growing up, it was always more fun to play with the boxes than the things that came in them. I guess that is Hippy nature.
opening you heart, sharing what you have with those who have none, forgiving in all cirumstances even when it hurts, realizing that people are only human. live and let live, showing compassion to your friends , enimies, and those you dont know.
I loved playing with boxes as a kid!! It always made me mom a little crazy to see me rather play with that, than the toy that came in the box.
respecting nature and it's furry creatures, because they have just as much of a right to live on this earth as we do - is hippy nature
There's no such thing as hippies anymore just as there aren't any punks. Most of these labels are simply classifications for how people dress themselves. Not for thier ideologies- which they seem to be lacking. or- motivation for change> which seemed to fizzle out after the elections If you want something to be angry about, hate yourselves, for using such superficial means for the purpose of judgment. Some of you have recognized that the hippie and punk movements are more about economics and marketing, but your anger is still directed at those who are brainwashed. Why don't you pick apart those who are doing the brainwashing. The people who SELL so-called hippie and punk products, mass-marketing an image instead of an ideal are the real issue here. Many on this board seems to stop short of that. I wonder why? stillhanginthere@60 jjack
Hippie nature is focusing oneself on passionate purpose and despising all kinds of corruption that hinders that passionate purpose.
Hippy Nature is kindness compassion and caring. Hippies are pretty much easy going, tolerant and cool. We're trustworthy, have good intentions and aren't pushy. We don't preach or try to change your mind about what you believe. We may tell you the truth about organized religions but we won't judge gullibleness. We don't support zoos, slaughter houses or the way cows chickens and pigs are treated because we can imagine what it would be like to be in their positions... Hippies are one of the last groups in the US known for practical common sense. I could go on for days.
Well, luckily I don't claim to be a Hippie (tho for shorthand I often say "old Hippie" to describe my history in the '70s). I am a supporting member of the St. Louis Zoo. It has been a part of my life growing up and I think important for kids to be exposed to the exotic and common animals of the world. Zoos have improved even in my lifetime - more natural habitats and much of the work is behind the scenes attempts to preserve certain species who are almost extinct in the wild. So to answer the question you might say that Hippies are not all on the same trip.
