"I've never seen anybody really find the answer, but they think they have. So they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer." -Ken Kesey That is hippy nature.
Hippy nature is knowing that nature is always beautiful and mankind can be mean and cruel and being natural rather than being like mankind.
Nothing is just hippie nature. It's an urge for wanting a group of people with the same virtues/mindset etc. to create a unified kind of nature for this group. The same intellectual virtues can be found in people who could be viewed as the opposite of a hippie, and also the same sense of ethics can be found in people who are not 'hippie' in any other way.
If we say that all hippies love peace, and we know that all Buddhist monks love peace, are we implying that all hippies are Buddhist monks? Hippies have their own nature that separates them from Buddhist monks. Enumeration of all the things that comprise hippie nature is obviously going to include things that fit into the nature of other groups. I think this goes without saying.
Taking off your shoes and enjoying the grass between your toes while closing your eyes and smiling towards the sun is hippie nature.
Loving others despite their differences, finding luxury in the simple things, being one with nature, exploring and always questioning the mysteries of our earth, living everyday t the fullest is the hippie nature.
nature in terms of human behavior is a combination/variable/mix of what we're grown up to be and what we want to be. hippie nature is a counterculture mentality that we'd like to think everyone should come together around because of alternate thinking. people that have gotten together around ideals that are more counter towards more abundant thinking of what they think is materialism. and a nature or niche of thinking that people accept that isn't what the norm is. and its a celebration of breaking the ice of ruleless thinking. imo
When I flew into LAX after doing my time (US Army) in 1971, the first thing I did was hit the head to change into civilian clothes. I actually ditched my uniform in the garbage can I was so ashamed to be seen in it. I have been an active war resister ever since. To see the same stupidity repeated in Iraq and Afghanistan really bums me out. I need a hug...
I haven't responded to this thread todate because I really didn't have a clue as to "Hippie Nature." I lived in the counter culture of the late '60s and early '70s and I suppose I should know but just couldn't formulate it. So I came across the above quote and tho it puts a damper on the whole query, I think it bears some truth. We have all these pieces posited that still don't look like an elephant (Re: several blind men describing an elephant by touch)
This is why I do not believe Hippy nature to be a myth. The several blind men describing an elephant by touch did not individually describe the whole elephant but as a group they were pretty close. Likewise I don't believe any of us have the whole picture but as a group, I think the picture is pretty clear.
Hippie Nature is about rising above the daily grind to survive, and uniting with the Cosmic Spiritual Stream to become a new person, with changed perspective of what really matters in life.
Hippie nature is an innocent, innovative, and hopeful spirit. Hippie movement is the result of the "discontent of youth". An expression and outgrowth of the "beat" or beat down, beatnik. The reaction of those culturally disenfranchised by indigestion from a diet of sour and moldy grapes. Hippie culture, like any culture, is a commercialized facsimile, of the above mentioned dynamic.
Hippie nature is realizing you are different than all the rest and that you can make a difference in changing the world to make it a better place to live.
